Build this Hoop Trellis to Grow Your Cantaloupe and Watermelon Vertically.
In this episode of the Vegetable Gardening show, Mike shows you how he built a hoop trellis so he could grow his cantaloupe and watermelon vertically to help save on some space.
Growing your vining plants vertically is going to save you a lot of space. In order to do that you need to use a trellis or some other vertical structure for the plants to grow up.
In this video I show you how I am going to grow cantaloupe and watermelon, vertically, with the help of what is called a hoop trellis. Using nothing more than PVC, threaded rods and some fenciing, all of which are available at any home center, you can put this together also.

Is there another video showing you melons growing?
the seeds were planted on the inside of the trellis? how did I work did u do an update vid?
What length of pvc did you use. This is our first yr growing cantloupe. We live in central il
Did you have problems with cross pollination between the watermelon and cantaloupe? I had this problem before with them planted too close together.
That was a great, and easy idea building that trellis with very simple supplies.thank you and your little helper for sharing your awesome idea!!
Not stiff enough to hold the cantelope or water mellons, and too many seeds.
How long is the pvc used to make the hoop? And how thick is it?
This was an excellent instructional video. I will implement this for my watermelon garden. A big thank You!
Hi Mike: Thank You for the great video and information. Do You have an update on the hoop trellis with the cantaloupe? If not how well did the cantaloupe do? You have made me very interested in both the hoop trellis and the square ft. gardening. I might have missed it, How long were your pvc tubes? It looked like halve of your seeds were planted inside the trellis. Please correct me if I am wrong. Again Thank You.
Greetings, great video. One question, after you put down the paper is the mulch the only thing you add? Or did you add soil as well?
How long are the PVC pipes… Also, are they 1/4"???
