Valdis Šīmanis niedru jumtu likšanas biznesā nokļuvis nejauši. Pirms ceturtdaļgadsimta, būdams vēl Nīcas padomju saimniecības elektriķis, viņš ar sievu netālu no Papes ezera iegādājās kādu vecu lauku māju, kurai bija niedru jumts. Tolaik, kad Valdis nolēma mājas pagrabam jumtu atjaunot pats, viņš pat iedomāties nevarēja, ka ar laiku šīs zināšanas kalpos par pamatu jaunam arodam un jaunam uzņēmumam „Eco Roof”, kas tagad jau iekarojis Latviju un par sevi licis manīt arī Eiropā.
