Exposure: wisteria loves sunny positions, exposed to the sun’s rays throughout the year. In winter it is advisable to protect young specimens from persistent frosts.
Watering: this fast growing plant needs a lot of water during the hot summers, therefore it is necessary to supply a lot and very frequently; in the hottest and drier periods it is better to leave the vase in a saucer to be filled with water every day. With the arrival of autumn, decrease the amount of water, while trying to keep the soil moist.
Soil: it has no particular needs in terms of soil, you can also use a good universal soil. If you want, you can prepare a good substrate by mixing two parts of sand, two parts of clay and three parts of compost soil. The wisteria should be potted every 2-3 years, at the end of winter or at the beginning of spring, before flowering.
Multiplication: fresh seeds can be sown in spring, remembering that wisteria plants bloom only at the age of 5-6 years; to obtain a plant that gives us a beautiful flowering already the following year it is possible to use the layering technique. Wisteria is often attacked by gray mold and powdery mildew, which completely ruin the flowers.
