I’ve gotten this question so many times that it’s about time I answer it on the channel! When growing in a Deep Water Culture (DWC) system, many people write in and ask, “Where should the bottom of my net pots be in relation to the nutrient reservoir?”

It’s a good question, and the answer is pretty simple…so watch and find out!

Where Should You Place Your Net Pots in a Deep Water Culture System?

LOVE your channel! I'm new to aqua/hydroponics. I couldn't get the plants that I wanted to start my 3 1/2 gal betta fish jars, so I had to buy seeds. Is this the same how-to advice for growing seeds inside of rock wool in a net pot of hydroton? Thank you for your generous sharing with us.

thanks for clearing this up as a newbie there are so many variables to figure out 🙂 If I was to go for this in a dutch bucket and use the drip method to start, how do I know what drip-rate is "right"?

If I were to use the drip system till my roots get to the water do I drip just water or water w/ nutrient? Also, do I just check that the cube is wet daily? Or is a constant drip needed? Thank you.

Didn't really answer the question. Question was where do you place net pot? And your answer is get a drip top or air stone. Ok, I have air stone, the question remains where do you place the net pot, i.e how much separation from the net pot to the water should there be if the roots haven't hit the water?

If transplanting a store bought plant into a kratky system (washed off the soil) how much of the root system should I submerge into the nutrient solution? All the roots? Or do I want to leave some out to breathe? (Not using an airstone)

I've just watched the video and am using the air stones. It appears I'm doing the same as the video; the net pot has the rock wool which has the seed. The bottom of the pots are not in the water (they are actually about 4 inches above the water line), but are being hit by the air bubbles.
However, three of the pots never sprouted and the rock wool has been drenched by the air bubbles to the point of being soaking wet.
My question is can the rock wool be too wet? If so, would it be smart to only have the very base of the pot just 'peeking' through the cut hole at the bottom rather than sitting on its lip (the way you showed yours)?
