Today we will learn What is Pinching in Gardening or Pinching plants. Why do you pinch plants and which plants can you pinch.
Well, Sometimes in Gardening, we come across many odd terms and one among them is PINCHING.
So what is Pinching for plants? Pinching is a simplest form of plant pruning that is cutting or trimming plants at the tips of main stem or branches that encourages more branching on the plant. This means that when you pinch a plant, you are removing the main stem, forcing the plant to grow two new stems from the leaf nodes below the pinch or cut and this process makes your plant more and more bushy in the long run if you continue pinching.

So which plants are candidates for pinching? You can pinch any plants with soft stems which can be easily pinched with your finger nails, just above the nodes and hence the name. You can also use a cutter for this purpose. Commonly done for herbal plants like basil and also ornamental plants like Coleus. Commonly Pinching coleus plant and pinching basil or tulsi is performed in home gardening. THis gardening hack is done to increase branching a plant or plant branching and these are the benefits of pinching.
