Why do you plant things in pots on the top of the soil in totes?
Having a garden of any kind has many more rewards than just a good tasting vegetable or fruit. There is something very special and exciting about watching your "plant children" grow and mature. You are giving life to little seeds and creating an environment for them to flourish. It is a very nurturing thing to experience, and we end up talking to our plants, because we know they have spirits, and can sense us and how we feel. Today I saw tiny cucumbers on my vines for the first time. There is a huge butterfly that comes each day to check each flower out. I have only seen one bee (which is alarming). Today I brought the hose around to use it instead of watering by hand. Making an easy system is the best way to enjoy growing. Having plants in containers makes everything so much easier and more manageable. Thank you for your wonderful videos. I know you have inspired so many people, including me. Today I stuffed my first Robbie container the way you do it (didn't use any potting soil though, just leaf mold). But the rest was as you instructed. I've been using weed and dirt "tea" and the plants love it. What is "dirt tea"? Just what it says. A handful of yard or good dirt in a container of water, shaken or stirred very well and used on the plants. They green right up. It gets the minerals into the water, and makes it more available to the plants because it is disturbed. Try it. I have brought orange trees into first fruit by this method. Sound stupid, but it works.
I m in Imperial county,Ca . Can I grow beets, cauliflower, broccoli , lettuce in these large plastic containers?. How a about green beans potatoes? . What corn do i plant in August or Sept?
You are so awesome 🙂 I love you 🙂 You have inspired me to start "Toteing"
Same thing happened to me. Previous to last year I hadnt had the flu for 5 years then I decided to take the flu shot because of my job last year & my arm was swollen & I was sick like never before. I will NEVER touch ANY vaccine again, I dont care what anyone says. I dont know what they put in those things but it made me very sick!
Why do you have tulle draped on the wall behind your plants, Robbie?
Hi Robbie and Gary,
Greetings from SW Ontario!
I'm so glad I found your videos. I was going to give up on gardening because our only sunny spot is infested with goutweed. Container gardening in totes to the rescue. Almost threw out
my old seed packets too. Have ordered some tulle and did the pot on pot for my two flower pots at the front of the house. Just watched Gary's how to make a trellis with rebar, will be getting that ready for next year's growing season. Looking forward to watching all your videos.
I just love your videos! We are being very careful too. More careful than a lot of people that we know, but I just do not want to get it. I don't want my husband to get it. If i know i'm doing everything that we can to be careful and we still manage to get it, we will deal with it as best we can, but if i wasn't doing everything i possibly could, and i got sick i would really be kicking myself. My grandma got it, she's 99, and she got better, but she had a whole team of nurses taking care of her around the clock. I don't know how I would manage it, just me and my husband.
Those watermelon are probably going to be the best watermelon ever!! Today's watermelon with all the seedless nonsense. Ugh. I despise them!! I don't have enough sun or room at my townhouse for watermelon. 🙁 I hope you keep the seeds and have more and more generations of those watermelons. It would also be cool to put them in a seed swap so other people can get those watermelons growing other places too. Those were buried treasure! 🙂
I really enjoy your videos and innovative ideas. You’re a kind person to share your knowledge with us all and I thank you for that. I’m actively using totes for my tomatoes and they’re huge! My fave invention of yours are the ant motes. Hubby even made one for our Oriole feeder. You’re brilliant, a gifted storyteller and oh so fun to watch. 🙂
This is the second time I’ve watched a video of yours and I can’t tell you how much I can relate to you. My brain is very busy like yours and I’m always going 100 miles a minute. I like to decide as I go and I don’t like to have to stick to it. I start a craft often without a final product in mind. I change as I go and I like that freedom. I like to pick my garden as I eat it just the same as you. If I’m not eating it right then I leave it be and I like it that way because it’s more fresh I feel. In a world that feels a bit lonely right now, your video brought me so much peace. I don’t know you but you feel very kind and I wish I had a neighbor like you to be buddies with. How fun it must be to have such a nice person to visit with and drop off bits from the garden. Thank you for this video. Thank you for spreading kindness, that’s what it’s all about. Ps. I also have a Yorkie, his name is Presley ☺️
Ginger candy is so good very effective to coughs and throat irritation
I also LOVE and have been using BLACK tulle. It disappears…. totally
BTW: Minute Rice. Make your own. Just make a large batch in your rice cooker. Cool and bag it over night in the refrigerator. Next day…knead it (in the bag ) to break it up. Place it on your racks in your dehydrator and dry it out. Voila… Your Own Minute Rice. I keep them in jars and scoop out 1:2 ratio of rice to water, broth, etc. Cook 7-8 minutes in a pot or microwave. I love having various types of rice (brown, calrose, jasmine) on hand for quick meal that way. Plus… you know what you are eating, again. Get out that dehydrator Robbie! lol
Keep doing what you KNOW is right. We have only gotten take out 4 times since March (in California) because….. i may trust the restaurant… but… i have NO IDEA where their employees have been the other 16 hours. Not to sound paranoid… but cautious. We had saute'd home grown kale and chard with our chicken breast and home grown romaine lettuce with home grown cherry tomatoes. There is a sense of security in that. Thank you for inspiring my to eat what i grow. BTW…. slice some of your turmeric and ginger and candy that. You can grind up the candied ginger (in a cheap coffee grinder) and its wonderful added to tea. Thanks again Robbie and Gary. <3
My father used to buy hard tack candy when were little
His friends wife made it. Cinnamon, root beer, peppermint, and a few other flavors. There is a real name for it but I can't remember what it is. They shattered it with a hammer so it was in different shapes and sizes.
