These are my five top vegetables that I believe are just too easy to grow! Great for beginners who ask the question, what should I grow in my vegetable garden?

Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started SSM in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

I was in the hospital and am just catching up on your videos now. I'm so excited for you! And you make me so excited for my own veggie garden (although in MA, there's still snow on the ground). I'd love to have a cup of coffee with you and just plant stuff…I think you would be so fun to hang out with (your Mom, too! She's the sweetest). TFS 🙂
you remind me so much of April, on Grey's Anatomy. You even kinda sound like her lol
How is the ground prepped under the raised beds. It looked like you may have had crushed stone ?? – then landscape fabric ?? Do you think an 8 inch deep bed with no where else to go beneath (if fabric and or crushed stone is under it) is deep enough? I know yours are 12 inch deep… and would be great, but I cannot seem to find 2×12 or anything close to that around here.
The yellowing coule be caused by a parasitic green algae. If you think this is the issue try spraying copper sulphate solution onto it
How do you keep your gravel so clean? 🙂
Wow! this raised bed is gorgeous! Love the add on trellis for beans, peas or even my nasturtiums. This would make a nice addition to our back yard. thank-you LGarden!
Thanks for the video, I have been trying to figure out soil combinations and ratios for raised beds also and loved this video, gives me lots of ideas . Keep up the good work, much appreciated !
When I did raised beds I also used a mix of top soil, manure and compost but I had to do it all myself (perhaps I should open a Company in the UK selling raised beds mix!!) Also, are you intending to rotate your crops? I use a 5 year rotation so that brassica's go to Legumes & squashes which go to Onions which go to potatoes and their family which go to roots which go to brassica's. It works really well for me and helps to reduce the pests and disease that comes with vegetable gardening 🙂
Garden Answer, Very very nice. good luck. Bennie
That will be different, a black picket fence. Have you seen one somewhere before? It could be pretty with light color roses.
Hi Laura, as you planted your north poles last year and this is their first full growing season, what percentage of their total (to mature) growth do you think will happen in this first year? Will they grow quickly and then peak and slowly “fill out” over the next few years – or will they grow and spread slowly over a few years? Xx
good neighbors are great to have
hello in turkey
You always have amazing ideas!!!! Never thought of balancing different garden beds! Are you growing tomatoes?
When you built the raised beds from garden supply, what did you use to prevent soil from seeping through the cracks of each slat of wood? I am going to build raised beds on a hill where I am going to need to place another slat of wood in the front to keep the bed level. I am planting it near trees so I don’t want to disturb the tree roots.
Potatoes are so fun to grow
Remember those white daikon radishes, and plant them near your squash plants. They're a decent deterrent for squash bugs, which can decimate your squash plants.
I subscribed because he makes it funny
love your channel 😀
I just discovered you.
After several years of losing, trying organic gardening to wire worms, Japanese beetles, extreme hot weather and wind storms plus back and knees injuries I quit. Also rising water and electricity bills, it is not easy folks. These are the facts they don’t tell you about. You blow away your monthly retirement money and left owing medical bills.
Love watching your videos. My partner and I came across you when looking for info on quails, and your style and easy going nature keep me coming back. Cheers from Canada!
You're my Spirit Animal!
OK, you're hilarious! Come be my neighbor! (Sadly, that means you'd have to have Trump for your president … but that means lots of chances to use your humor!)
You're like the Steve Irwin of vegetables lol
How TF did this amazing guy get 317 dislikes for such a beneficial video about the most important thing to us humans which is our "health" in this polluted world full of evil corporations feeding us poison and GMO's…fuck you guys, please make more videos Sir
7:02.. eat garlic.. then family stay away afew hours…. hshagaaaaha
I love his personality XD Great video !
Nothing guinea pigs can have often. Oh well guess I’ll keep pissing my parents off and take there expensive organic veg
I love the combination of sincerity with a whacky sense of humour.
"get on the boots and plant some zuccs" is my gardening motto now!
You rock mate! Thanks for making these videos. Just found you today and have subscribed. Have just bought our 1st house in qld and have been waiting my whole life to make an epic garden. Looking forward to watching your other vids.
Tried to grow Virginia creeper and it died.
But you are cheating by living in Australia !
If i lived there you would see me growing a tree that give 1 meter bananas and 15kg purple watermelons AT THE SAME TIME !
Thanks Man! Here in Alabama we are getting ready for our Spring planting. You're giving me a lot of good ideas.
I love this video so much, this guy has such a happy vibe about him 🙂 very informative video aswell!
Did i just see snakes in a bucket for sale for food?
