UW Ph.D. candidate Nate Storey describes his hydroponic tower system that uses fish to provide nutrients for his main product — vegetables. He tied for first in the 2011 Wyoming K Entrepreneurship Competition through the UW College of Business this past spring

In this video I will show you the 3 different type of hydroponic grow towers that I use, the food that I grow in them and give you the pros and cons of each. Hydroponic is a great way to grow certain types of vegetables quicker and healthier, without some of the variables you deal with in soil gardens. I hope you enjoy this video.
i see so much algae in the tank…
Is that matrix you have filling up the square white vertical tubes good enough at spreading the nutrient solution out? It would seem at least at first glance that the water would just find one path down to the bottom through that … the path of least resistance, and the plants might or might not get any nutrient solution? How do you get it to wick out and fill up the whole tube, or do you need to?
Just use Food Grade PVC for your Hydroponic needs.
Is anyone aware of studies regarding PVC for hydroponics? Just curious if they leach something into the water, which is then absorbed by the plants. I think i would prefer tubing approved for drinking water…
WHAT WAS THE ISSUE WITH THE ISSUE WITH THE PVC.
So you are combining Aquaponics with Hydroponics eh?
Experienced gardener isn't born, but with the correct resource and detailed plan.
how much money would you say you save?
so fucking beautiful holy shit omg.
Too much noise in the background!
What do you feed the fish? The need to feed the fish makes this system somewhat dependent on outside sources, so it's not a truly closed system — correct? Nevertheless, this is awesome! Thanks very much for this video.
OOP. Sorry. All I heard about fish food is the word "Purina" What is the exact Purina product you feed them? Thanks.
Wasting alot of energy to run the pumps !! Nature's way or God's way is hard to beat !!
I'm working on a commercial venture looking for key people please call me at 651-335-2261
real poor video coverage. Common man can understand nothing from the visuals, but the speech of the person. It would have been impressed, if shown well
How you arrange the towers in order to allow all of them to receive the same amount of light every day? The concept is brilliant but I am worried about the towers covering each other from the sun and affecting their performance. Thanks, great work!
Nice aquaponics/aeroponics set up
Brock, we'll see. I am helping this young man perfect his tower. As with anything it may need a little adjusting. I like its potential. I will update you in another episode. Thx for the kind words.
Really nice episode Jeff! I'm interested to see the cucumbers grow in that tower!
stephen, great suggestion.
Jeff I wonder if Alex can run the line through the PVC tower as appose to the outside? it might make it look nicer and help people like me avoid damaging the line while working around it. I look forward to see how you do with them!
Enjoy this video as I compare and contrast hydroponic grow towers to grow your vegetables.
