Bonsai with an upright style can be of two main types, very different from each other: the formal upright style and the informal upright one. In both cases, these are very classic styles that imitate what (normally) happens in nature. In the formal erect, in fact, the plant develops in height and the trunk tapers in search of sunlight, while remaining straight and solid. In the informal erect, however, the trunk follows curves, from which branches start.
