I show you all the trellising options I use in my garden that are set up for this year. I also cut in some of last year’s videos so you can see growth on them. Growing vertically saves you space and it helps you manage pests and diseases.

I garden in zone 6b. We have some pretty challenging weather sometimes. I don’t claim to be an expert, so you will see my successes and my failures.
Although most of my videos are about gardening, I will occasionally post videos about nature, or other things that interest me.
I really appreciate feedback, so please say hi so I’ll know you’ve dropped by.
I also have a gardening blog at: http://mygardenyourgarden.blogspot.com
How do you know which squash and cucumber plants will climb?
I just love your channel. I learned how to garden literally from your videos. I am a newbie gardener, my first year growing crops in pots – urban gardening in London and I was able to identify tomato and strawberry problems. Thank you Gary, keep up the good work! And big congrats on 100k subscribers.
How do you trellis an indeterminate tomato plant? Also do you use Diatomaceous Earth in your garden for pests? The squash vine borer, squash bugs, and ants (no aphids yet)? A little bit of powdery mildew creeping in but am cutting off affected leaves. How much of your neem oil do I use per gallon. Do you ever combine it with DE and what is DE? Someone told me to combine them but I have no clue on what that extra ingredient is. Will definitely have to check out your pest control videos. Can you do an update on the most effective pest control treatments on your garden that you have found to work for you? I'm trying to organic garden as best I can but sometimes its not possible, so I'm trying to prevent, prevent, prevent.
Hey Gary I started cucumber from seeds in cup, in the process of getting them in the grown my tiller broke down so I was not able to till my soil for my garden!!! They stayed the the cup for 2 months!!! I finally got them in the grown a week ago!!! My question is will they still grow?? It doesn't look like there getting any size on them???
Hello… Love your channel .. you have helped me a lot with my garden. my question is I'm in Niagara Falls canada and can't get neem oil. unless I order from U.S. A. and the shipping is really high what do you recommend in place. I just noticed some white spots on my cucumber plants this morning. Also I read neem oil can cause miscarriages, my daughter is currently 13 weeks pregnant is there any truth to that. Thank you for your help.
Great video Gary! I invested in the rubber coated poles this year. They are a bit pricier (about $5 per pole), but they are very sturdy and as long as the rubber coating does not come off, they will last for years to come. I use them for my pole beans and so far this year the pole beans seem to like them.
I am definitely going to try this! I am a newbie to gardening and planted some spaghetti squash, guess I'm building a trellis tonight! lol
Wow, those red beans are great. Where do you find the seeds?
hello Gary ! l love growing vertically as I got very little space so I use arches, obelisk, canes frames trellis and pretty much anything else I can get !! thanks for sharing and happy gardening !!
I am soooo grateful for this video. I'm just getting my summer crops growing. I have access to bamboo so I'm going to use the free bamboo instead of the wood from HD, but the chicken wire idea is great too. I can see how I can continue to grow leafy greens underneath due to the shade as well!
Awesome!
thanks
I just read all the comments after watching many of your videos and this one…i'm plunging ahead with the silly question…the triangle trellis with chicken wire- Do the cukes get planted so they're inside of the triangle, along the base, like it would be under the point? Or do I plant them along the outside so the vines crawl up along the outside of the wire towards the point. Sorry?! Yes they let me play in the garden alone!! LOL
Thanks for the video.
Lots of great ideas.
Cheers.
Some great ideas!
Quick question,
My Georgia Collard are bolting right now,
Why is this happening and what can I do to stop this ????
Thanks
Ty sooo much Gary! I was also looking for trellis options that are more on diy level and cheaper. Def have that all laying around. Wow ur garden looks amazing right now!! This is my 2nd summer gardening. Still a newbie. Garden =Sanctuary for me. Since we have clay and I'm disabled I have a hard time with the digging. Especially for the cold veggies. Someone sd adding sand would help loosen the soil and give room for root veggies to grow. Is that true? I'm really loving ur bucket idea. Do u empty the buckets when frost hits and put them away? Thanks as always! 🙂
Good ideas for saving space. Every time I watch one of your video where you walk around the garden and shows us things, I rush out to my garden and try to squeeze one more plant in somewhere. I am just always impressed by how many plants you squeeze into the space you have. Thanks for always inspiring me!
Great video as always, Gary. Great tips for the cucumber – I'm about to plant my seedlings up so perfect timing to discover this video!
Nice cucumbers. I thought it was neat how you grew a butternut squash up a trellis. Kind of unconventional to grow squash vertically but you seem to have it down pat! Cheers 🙂
Thanks for the tips Jim, I tried all of these vegetables on trellises and it defiantly give you more growing space. T
I never thought of using a trellis for butternut squash.
That would save a whole lot of room!
Great looking vegetables growing on your trellis..
Would you recommend one wire trellis over another. The rusty one or cattle fence panel?
you have just given me an idea. I have some spare trellis in the back garden so I may try growing my cucumbers up it!!
Hello Jim,Thanks for shareing,I have few golden crispy melons were upto a feet now .Plan to make trellis for them.Greetings from south India!!cheers, shalbin.
Yes I am definitely using a trellis this year for some of my vining plants. It makes more available space. 🙂
Great information Jim. I am ready for the growing season. Best wishes Bob.
I'm hoping to grow yard long beans this year but I can't find the seeds around here but I've only look at Wal-Mart the Home Depot your I come
awesome! planning to do my beans and cucumbers on a trellis. I'm going to attempt to do a teepee trellis! wish me luck lol!
They did well on your trellis's. Peas and tomatoes also can be put on one.

Vining vegetables tends to produce picture perfect fruits when grown vertically as you cucumbers and butternut squash.
