Can you make fake shingles for shaded area and corners, it would be cheaper.
Can you make solar patio cover to let some light through.
Great.. but solar tiles have been around for a number of years…. how can Tesla take credit for this?
TESLA needs to be building relationships with Developers. Residential Developers account for 250,000+ (as high as 400,000)housing starts in North America every year. The developer ultimately makes the initial investment and decision as to which roofing system will be implemented. And new construction is where TESLA is going to make it or break it. I didn't hear one mention of the developer market. The re-roof market is great but to start the trend rolling into the mainstream scale, consumers need to see data coming from entire neighborhood developments.

Versions for manufactured and modular housing would have the benefit
of being a common and standard size units.
Lightweight nature and common sizing, the solar panels could be the entire roof/ceiling structure that fastens right to the top plate of the walls.

For new builds in NA, this would be a nobrainer. For Australia, we will have to wait a few years before supply becomes available, like the Model 3. In the meantime, its great China have made available to the world very cheap retrofit panels that work and can help world energy away from coal. All power to these guys in the Solar industry including Tesla
What people DONT understand about a Coventional Roof / Solar panels is that a Conventional Roof is not Ballistic and usually Does not last beyond 50 years, and that Conventional Solar is a lot Heavier than the Tesla Solar Roof.
some Home owners may have to Retrofit and Strenghthen their roof before installing Conventional Solar.
