End of season shut down, clean out & cost of running for 5 months. I bought 35 Albion everbearing strawberry plants from Sakuma Bros. I used Fox Farms Big Grow for the hydroponic nutrients. My strawberry pvc tower is what is called a NFT system. I built my tower for around a 0. Thanks for watching

Thanks for the cost comparison! I would bet you harvested many baskets worth of strawberries over 5 months.  After your initial equipment cost you only spend 43 dollars on electricity and nutrients so that is not too bad. I don't count strawberry cost because you can reuse them every year by drying them out can cutting them down (that is my plan). 1 lbs of strawberries at Walmart (or wherever) cost 4.48 so if you harvest 10 lbs or more than it is worth the cost! That is the information to know!

I have also (partially) set mine up so that I have some flow diverted via a T-piece to a dripper system. I plan to have some cups in the top of my reservoir- the diverted flow should be able to irrigate these, with the run-off falling back into the reservoir. This is so that I can establish new plants where the root system is so new that it is unable to reach into the main pipes.

Mine uses black pipes- I plan to cover them with aluminium foil to reflect the light and keep the roots cool. I don't know what glue to use though!

I've watched these videos several times- thank you for the insights!
I've now nearly finished setting up my own using system, based on your design, but I have a 10' greenhouse and have set up 4 x 9' tubes so that flow starts and ends in the same place. 🙂
I found 3" mesh pots very hard to find here in the UK, finally going with these from ebay: "hydroponic plant pot 8.5cm mesh aeroponic pot" which is around 3.5" at just £11.49 for 100. They should arrive this week, my system should be up within 24 hours, and my strawberries should arrive the week after. 🙂
Thanks for your help with all this.

I suspect that you would get less root growth if you used a stronger solution. You can buy NPK fertiliser as the components, so when you are ready to encourage flowers you can add (for example) ammonium phosphate.

P.S….I have wild straws in our beaches…I am in Sitka, Alaska…
    …it's readily AVAILABLE…go look…Wikipedia shows that it's all the way to antarctica…I used a "skiff"…once outside of town…like half a mile…in ANY direction…the straws were "RAMPANT"……

There is a couple "tower" versions…Your system is my fav though…simple bliss & then some……………the "towers" I might be using as a supports…instead of wood staples…

Not sure. I prune the runners & when the older leaves start getting red or orange i'll prune those also. Seems to be growing new leaves through out the summer. Might have to try that some day- maybe at the end of summer. Thanks for commenting & watching ,

    Thanks for the video.
I also have some ideas to grows up to 10 times the plants, by 50 % the time, with much healthier plants, while the "fish" do all the work…”

Hi Jahad i'm going to I'm going to do a step by step video in a couple of weeks on this setup. This was one of my 1st videos & I left out a lot of information. Sorry about that. Its very easy to build & operate. If there is any thing I can do to help let me know.

P.S. Maybe you could refer me to a site or video that has step by step directions on how to build, if you do not have time to do a "drawing". I would appreciate that. thank you !

Would it be possible for you do draw a simple diagram of all the components to make this system? I know zilch about hydroponics other than it is 'water"! I loved your videos. I was trying to see your reservoir set up and connections, pump, tubing, etc. and how you put it all together. I really want to try this but don't understand the "mechanics" of it all. I'm just asking…only if you might find the time. Thanks so much for putting these videos online! You have inspired me to try. Julie
