I see… if lemon is a natural pH down, that what is a natural pH up? Additionally, how much to add per gallon? I'm trying to do hydroponics in our garage with one 5 gallon tote for strawberries and one 5 gallon bucket for a tomato that have a pH of about 6.0-6.5. Thanks!
So many great reasons to do hydroponics! First generally it uses about 90% less water. With hydro you can reclaim/recapture/recycle about 90% of the fluids..you cant do that with soil..at least not to that extent. My experience has been that I have far less pest problems with hydro (both indoors and outdoors), than soil based gardening. I'm not a fan of indoor soil gardening per se..other than small house plants. I do a lot of Kratky indoors, and have really great success. I generally dont recommend hydro indoors involving pumps.. as a lot of damage could be done when water/pump lines go a muck. However I know a lot of people who do automated hydro indoors and they love it..so.. you have to weigh that out. The biggest issue I run into with hydro, mostly outdoors..is white flies, but if you use a good natural spray.. every other day for about a week.. you'll have it taken care of. Once in awhile I see a few white flies indoors.. but the spray works really well. I use Dr. Earth.. it's a little expensive..but it works great. I've tried Dawn dish soap..and just neem..but never really had GREAT results…with Dr Earth.. it's been excellent. There are probably other products that work well, and are cheaper.
Oh! Just today, I decided to try some hydroponic lettuces and greens this winter. I turned to your channel and what should I see, but instructions on starting seeds hydroponically! Hooray. . .guess what I'm asking for for Christmas? 😉
I'm still a noobie gardener myself, so yes, I look in on new starts frequently, too. And when that little seed leaf peeks out above the starter, it's so exciting!
Great trick with the lemon luke! I've been a gardener for about 7 uears and never heard of using that. I love to try and stay organically as much as I can, so thx for that!
Hey Luke, great set up!! I get so pumped when growing and starting new seeds. I have been growing in soil for a long time and it's great, that being said I absolutely love everything about hydroponics and have had great success experimenting with it. I have lettuce in my cloning machine right now..lol Such a difference with growth, no pest or diseases either because no breeding ground.. I wish you great success! I love my indoor grow lights for my lettuce and to start my seedlings off with a jump. Great video!

Did you get the PH strips at the same place you got the rock wool?
It's not fiber glass. It's molten rock that has been spun into a mat.
Also I have heard that Rock Wood is hazardous and not environmentally friendly. What are better materials to use
Is your hydroponic solution organic??
Why do you start them this early, is that because you won't be transplanting them outdoors? I just remembered you saying hydroponic
Newbie question: do we need to keep the lights on all the time? Do we need to add water during the germination process?

Yes lol I check my seeds as often as possible. I make a trip out to the field whenever I can.

What type of light are you using on these? Thanks Luke
This is so exciting!
rock wool is finely spun molten basaltic rock
