    a bonfire adds minerals to the ground, but for the future you can just carry dry leaves in a basket (bamboo leaves for example), and throw them on top, they will decompose slowly and also keeping the moisture of the ground.

    Compost is best, you could also have them buried and plant your veggies on them …
