The use of wood, after a drastic abandonment due to the industrialization of nations and therefore to the increasingly frequent production of chemical and synthetic materials created in the laboratory, is slowly returning to vogue; even if slow, what is happening is an inexorable rapprochement with nature, mostly due to the environmental issue: the use of wood for structures, flooring or roofing is totally zero impact (100% zero environmental impact), moreover when timber structures will have completed their life cycle they can be reused to power wood stoves, or even the wood can be reworked and transformed into wood chips for stoves or less valuable timber such as chipboard and wood sheets intended for multiple uses ; for example, once painted they can be used to cover internal facades of walls possibly damaged by humidity.

That wood is one of the oldest materials used for the supporting structure of houses or places of worship is certainly no secret. The tree, from which wood is extracted and worked, has always been considered a sacred element by most of the ancient populations. The tree is life and at the same time gives life and offers shelter to multiple forms of life including man. Always revered for its mystical ability to unite earth and sky, the tree has been the protagonist of many cults at least until the modern era, in which it was violently and radically supplanted by non-living materials and even in recent decades, for economic and policies that are not even worth investigating, it was decided to replace wood with toxic and polluting synthetic materials.

wooden roofing for exteriors As I anticipated in the initial part of this explanatory framework, wood is slowly making a comeback both in terms of structures and flooring, but why? I would start by asking a very important question: in which structures can wood be used? Certainly not as the supporting structure of an 800-meter skyscraper, but it can certainly be used for 90% of civilian structures. In addition to the already praised ecological qualities of wood, it should also be emphasized that wood is an excellent thermal insulator and this allows, without the aid of additional materials, perfect insulation, thus providing great savings in the user’s bill.

Not only that, wood is also a perfect acoustic insulator, it absorbs most of the sound wave without transmitting or reflecting it; not for nothing the most important theaters and the most prestigious acoustic chambers adopt wood to enhance the quality of the reproduced sound without altering the sound wave produced. In addition to these already spectacular capabilities, wood is a material that perfectly resists shear stress or, rather, it is a material that if adopted for the load-bearing structure of a given structure, in case of seismic stress the structure will not suffer. almost no damage; wood is a fibrous and very elastic material, very resistant to torsion and therefore even if “tortured” it will maintain its structural qualities without breaking or shattering. This therefore suggests that adopting wood for the load-bearing structure of a house is certainly the wisest choice both from the point of view of efficiency and from an environmental, ecological and economic point of view. in addition to being a valid choice for the reasons indicated above, it is certainly a choice of class: especially if we place our gazebos or wooden pergolas in a garden with greenery, the view of the wood will bring to our mind the figure of tree thus giving the garden a richer and above all more natural aspect. Furthermore, with the advent of new technologies, it will also be possible to create roofs with wooden materials; this will allow us not to use plastics or bituminous membranes for the waterproofing of our garage or gazebo. The use of wooden sheets as roofing will give the structure a very pleasant visual impact, especially if you play with the various colors given by the use of various wood.

wooden roofing for exteriors Alas, wood is not enough to make your structure ecological and respectful of nature; it will therefore also be important to evaluate with which substances it is treated to improve its waterproofing or hardness. In the case of external structures this aspect is not too relevant, but you will have to be very careful when you use wood in internal structures or for the flooring of your room.

VOCs, for example, are substances used to treat wood, originally liquid or solid, which over time transform their form into gaseous or vaporous; very often these materials are toxic and will make our home environment unhealthy, but above all unsuitable for the growth of children. So do not blindly trust those who offer you timber at a good price and do an accurate and in-depth research not only on the retail price but also on the processing adopted on that particular type of wood. Another aspect to consider when choosing wood as a structural material is for interiors but above all for exteriors is the danger in case of fire. Wood, as it is known, is a decidedly little fireproof material, indeed. This aspect should not be underestimated in environments subject to high temperatures or with the presence of sparks or flames. It is clear that in a domestic environment this aspect is almost negligible given that we will hardly start to light flames or embers inside the house, but outside it will always be necessary to evaluate a right distance from the wooden structure that surrounds us when we light barbecue or bonfires intended for warm up. It is advisable to use electrical equipment such as electric grills for the barbecue or heating lamps to soften the external environment; by doing so we will avoid dangers and we will be able to enjoy our moments outside with greater serenity

The use of wood for internal and external structures has always been a very wise choice, even if in the last decade this material has been supplanted by non-ecological materials; only in recent years have we been retracing our steps by entrusting skilled artisans and carpenters with the construction of even massive structures in wood. So, if you need to beautify your garden or want to build a sheltered place to park your car or simply where to stay to fully enjoy the temperate days, instead of adopting materials that rust or deteriorate over time, adopt wood: if well seasoned as well as giving a pleasant appearance to your structure will give you reliability for many decades.
