    Hi Morag,
You should be able to grow apples at Crystal Waters, so long as you choose the right varieties. I have Dorset Gold and a tropical apple growing in Kureelpa.
Have you seen some of the work done by Dr Elaine Ingham? She is a soil microbiologist, and her attitude is that there is no soil on the planet that doesn't have all the nutrients required for plant growth, just they are not in plant available form. Adding compost and aerobic compost teas that are inoculated generally with fungii will boost that interaction between plants and the soil food web to get the required nutrients. And by building the soil food web, you help prevent unwanted weed growth.

If you don't have shade for plants require it. How can it be that your garden is a good permaculture garden?

Thank you Morag for this excellent dialogue between you, Charles, and Steph….exchanging questions and feedback with respect, as well as finding common ground (pun intended) based on unchanging principles.
