Let me share with you how I always have fresh lettuce, inside the comfort of my home for LESS than the cost of store bought (after you DIY build your system). Growing hydroponically simply means we use grow lights and water , along with nutrient solution and rocks, to grow just about anything! You can use this with soil too

Here are the supplies I used to build my system:
*Lights
**GE Slimline Lights, 36 inch
You can get these on Amazon or Home Depot. HD has a better price ( I will not get credit for your purchase at HD but I want you to do this at a good price! )
.

Here are the bulbs I use:
https://www.1000bulbs.com/product/4943/F-21T5865F.html
For most cost effective results, use bulbs with the highest lumens & lowest watts which are also 6500K. Mine work fine for only 4.5 square feet, and 2 bulbs per shelf.
Lumens measures light brightness, wattage measures energy usage (low watts can still be very bright). If your location is not in front of a sunny window, I recommend getting high lumen bulbs (such as this): https://www.1000bulbs.com/category/f54t5-high-output-fluorescent-tubes-6500k/
I recommend using a 3 prong outlet adaptor to plug in your lights. The one I use: http://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-3-Outlet-Heavy-Duty-Grounded-Adapter-Orange-54541/203742102 You can also get them on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2kzWtdH

I think I use about 30 pounds (unsure) also available at hydroponic stores.

Here is a detailed video where I built the boxes:
I also used mylar food bags on the bottom of each box to help the light reflect. I did not mention it in the video because I am unsure if it makes enough of a difference to warrant purchasing them (I had them already). 25 Bags – http://amzn.to/2jtOyh8
Walls Need Love – Vinyl Decal: https://wallsneedlove.com/products/having-somewhere-to-go-is-a-home
Boxes – Make sure your boxes are waterproof
I used 2 x 8 lumber for my boxes. if I were to redesign them, I would use 1 x 8. The 2 x 8 is too heavy to tend.
6 mil plastic to line the boxes. http://amzn.to/2kxBRj7
Small white plastic bins are available at Dollar Tree for .00

Just say hydrophobic
i like this system
also add a fish tank bubbler with an aeration stone submerged this will supercharge your O2 levels
the better way for massive yeilds is to float a piece of foam cut to the size of your box and set your net pots into form fitting cut outs. this keeps light off the roots, your solution areateted and droplets of solution always forming on the roots until they submerge. youll double your yeilds
Excellent video, THANKS!
Nicely explained and done, you really took your time! Thank you, greetings from the Netherlands!
This is the best video on youtube that I have seen in a long time! You must be a teacher by profession as the way you present the information is concise, organized, detailed, thorough and beautifully presented! Thank you so much and I can hardly wait to get started! To maintain beauty and order while growing veggies in the house in such a gift. Thanks for sharing!

Perfect! Thank you!
Just what I've been waiting to see!
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST VIDEO ON GROWING LETTUICE IVE WATCHED
Ma'am how much nutrition required by a single plant daily? how can we find out this for hydroponic system?thanks
I have been watching YouTube videos for years and this is by far the best video I have seen to date. Great job. You are awesome.
Awesome video 🙂
hi glass is better than clay and rock wool is evil so are commercials 😉
Lot of extra information not suiting with content
You have such a cute voice like that Annelle girl from Steel Magnolia's. Keep up the good work.
Hi there, I'm growing watercress hydro like you showed me, and there is some problem w the water smelling bad. I used store bought watercress and layed them down on top of the rocks, but a little submerged, and the water stink. any suggestions? I think that I may try growing from seeds since the only part in the water is the roots. but I start to have little plants at the nodes, maybe I can cut them out and put them in those rock wool, maybe? thanks. and the rocks was the same type as yours, I think, bec the description on the cover said what I'd ordered. thanks!
Thank you so much for sharing your system! You have created a beautiful way to grow inside a home and your video was done so well. I am in the process of setting one up in my kitchen and I have a quick question. Do I replace the diffuser covers on the light fixtures after changing out the bulbs or leave them off? I am not sure if the diffuser will interfere with the 6500K bulbs' output.
Do y use rock from a pet store when y first started or do y buy rocks from amazon, and what kind are there? thanks.
how much clay pebles in litter do I need to fill 12 grow cups like yours. thanks so much!
