In my gardening education, YouTube has been the best tool overall. If I could have one resource, it would be fellow gardeners. In this video I will tell you how I watch videos, even those that are very far removed from my style of gardening. And then I will list out for you 20 channels I think you should check out. These are the folks I learn from.

Not everyone on this list does it your way or my way. Not all are great in production value. Some are not real polished on camera, some are highly skilled on camera. Some have nice equipment, some have their phone and a tripod like me. But ALL of them have much to teach us. We can glean much wisdom and knowledge here. This is MY list, and there are dozens more friends I watch and comment on regularly, but for the past year or so (and more for some) this has been the top bunch of resources to improve my gardening skill.

Great list of channels. There were several I had never heard of and will check out. I'm so glad I found your channel. I think I may have herbicide poisoning in my raised beds and that's how I found you. I put in six raised beds this year and purchased organic raised bed potting soil to fill them. I'm getting some of the same symptoms you got on your tomatoes. But I'm still not sure that's what it is. I emailed the two companies involved to see if they in fact test their product to ensure no contamination. We'll see if they respond. I was nice in my emails lol and I don't blame them. Sounds like there are farmers out there using these herbicides and not reporting it.

Thanks for the shout out Scott! Our mutual friend David the Good let me know about this. If I were to write a gardening book, it would be on non-dogmatic gardening. There are a huge number of tools and techniques available to us, but frequently we are sold systems that may or may not apply well to our contexts. The process of learning to garden in the modern age with so much information is essentially a never ending experiment. I think one of the best adjustments anyone can make in gardening is to learn to be curious and adventurous and embrace experimentation. If we consider knowledge gained to be more valuable than food grown, which it often is, the game completely changes.

My approach to gardening is very similar to yours, which is why I love your channel! I'll follow some basic guidelines but I really love to experiment and just see what happens! Often times my experiments tend to get more successful results than if I follow traditional principles. Thanks to your channel, I'm growing some okra up here in the Pacific Northwest! It's not something I ever would've considered but I figured, why not? I planted a few seeds in a large container a couple weeks ago and they germinated/sprouted beautifully. We're hitting some cooler weather in the next week but things will start heating up again in July so I'm excited to see how they do because I LOVE okra! I follow several of the channels you listed but will definitely check out the others. Jess and Miah are one of my favorites, too. Jess is so knowledgeable and I've learned so much from her, but I also just love their videos of life on the homestead. I'm a back/frontyard gardener like you, but I do enjoy the videos of the large homesteads as well. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge! YouTube is such an incredible platform for all of us to learn. Happy gardening!

Migardener? Khang Starr? Pretty solid list of gardeners even though you missed the two I mentioned. Btw, David the Good is king! His books are so helpful.

  • Team Benson

This is a great list I just started my garden and I'm recording my journey on my channel. But I have learned a lot from you I just started watching your videos yesterday and you have some great videos.

  • Rachel Hall

Oh I love it! I gotta go check out some of those channels! Thank you for sharing! I’m just entering my love for gardening and I hear ya about gleaning. I love watching all the different methods and all the different personalities with their love of gardening. You do have a great channel and this is a great list! Again, thank you! God bless!

  • Suzanne Squire

Thanks for sharing your YouTube list, appreciate it! I really like your style of teaching. I 'get it' easily and wondered if you post any of your sermons online? I think I heard you compost old sermon notes and thought I'd ask! Ty

Wow. What a great list of channels. Some I know well, others are new to me but very interesting. I will have to check them out. I wish I had the skills you have to put up the channel shots you did. Thank you for the very kind words regarding my channel. I’ve been wondering where all the traffic is coming from. I totally agree with your thoughts on taking the information/ techniques from other channels that work for your situation and leaning the rest. Take care.
