Morag Gamble (https://ourpermaculturelife.com and https://permacultureeducationinstitute) presents as 90 minute class on creating a small scale kitchen garden – the permaculture way.
Have you only got a small space to grow food, or would like to fill a niche in your garden with some more edible plants?
Everything we grow at home helps to reduce food miles, food waste and give us wonderful fresh, tasty and nutritious food.
FOR THE PLANET
Even in a small space, there is so much food we can grow quite simply. It’s actually a very important thing to be doing as a practical and positive response to the climate emergency. All the global facts we are facing can be overwhelming, and while you alone cannot solve the world’s problems, you can make a difference in your home and community and set off positive ripple effects. Urban agriculture, growing food in the city, is a rapidly increasing global trend that absolutely needs to happen ad what you do in your backyard can be part of this growing movement.
FOR YOU
There’s also something incredibly soul-nourishing about gardening, harvesting and sharing a meal of homegrown food. Gardening is so good for our physical and emotional well-being, and we can be growing nutritionally-dense food that we can grow for ourselves and our family, right at our door.
Learn some simple tips for getting the most out of your small space – to create a productive and beautiful tiny kitchen garden, that reduces your impact and increases ecological habitat too.

Hello Morag, from New South Wales – Zone 10A. Grateful, for your learnings and helping to bring health recovery. Do u you have the time to suggestions for Z10a drought tolerant, shade providing trees or a source to research designing a garden, in this zone. Blessings . Subbed
Hello aunty Morag i watched this video and felt motivated….my friends saw this video and felt motivated….my neighbours saw this and were motivated…we rent a projector in a big field and my village people saw this and felt motivated….thank you so much for this video. may god bless you. From the villagers of kakamega Kenya
Can you please advice on roof gardening
Hi. I love your videos. My wife and I are both blind and are trying to convert half our yard into a permaculture space we can maintain/support with minimal sighted assistance. I’ve tried reaching out to the few permaculture gardens and businesses I can find here on the NSW south coast with no success. Any suggestions to hire or find someone/communities to help us start right would be greatly appreciated. We have an oppertunity to invest and want to start with the best potential to expand as we go. Our eldest grand daughter has restricted growth (dwarfism) so being able to create an accessable space for her and us is very important. Permaculture is about supporting to maximise health, harmony and productivity so access and inclusion seem to fit the philosophy. Thanks for everything your doing for the biosphere and your fellow humans. The world needs more of it.
I started the indoor garden over the winter so I could learn some gardening. I put woodchips in the yard in October. in the spring I put 12 dozen worms under the woodchips. I had a late start. Everything is good. I will have things going in the indoor garden ready to go outside this next spring. I want lots of rotations.
First time here BUT amazing information and WILL be back, for sure.
Very Very Good Vid Thank you Morag ….Ants don't like Cinnamin , foood for thought Tip !!
Love your class. I have 1/2 acre cleared. Is that enough land to use or is that to small?
For teaching that is.
Thank you this was fantastic to listen to. I have a few new plants I want now haha.
With the raised beds, Mark from the Self Sufficient Me channel swears by them. He is near Brisbane so gets hot in summer. He has a few videos on them specifically and does mention that they don't actually heat up that much inside… might be interesting to see actual soil temps though. He does grow some pretty amazing food in them.
I am off to find Brazilian spinach and society garlic now hahahaha thank youuuu
We are water…water is life!
I fry up a large percentage of my pumpkin seeds because it is yummy and I have limited growing space at present. I also save about 10% of the seeds to plonk in the ground when I have enough space. That being said, I have managed to keep the same four to five vines alive for over a year. Even during the poor conditions last year, they survived. I was impressed, to say the least. They are from a chap up the road that has been growing Jap pumpkins for over a decades and likes to give neighbours fruit when he has a glut.
I'm enjoying this video now! What is the name of that dwarf red mulberry that doesn't stain? I'm in California, looking for a good variety.
Thank you so much Morag. This was a fantastic presentation. You know, whenever I am feeling sad or down, I listen to one of your presentations, and suddendly I feel so much happier 🙂 🙂 Thank you.
I have a suggestion for corrugated iron, raised garden beds (usually they are vege beds): set them up in a hugelkulture way with wood, and branches, and leaves, etc., under the soil (acts like a sponge for water as it rots down and also has good microbes in it). Also – and this is really super helpful and effective – hang hessian (either from a roll or cut open bags) along the sunny side of the bed to cover the metal, so the bed does not heat up and cook the roots inside.
Awesome video, thanks, Morag! I need to chop and drop more, and start to plant under my fruit trees as well. 🙂
Where r the other serials 1 to15 available
I started a small garden on the roof top and was growing spinach, coriander, chilli . I also grew a melon and got 4 melons, than nature struck, a rat now comes and has eaten 2 melons. What to do? I am disappointed. Can you suggest anything, I don't want to harm it, but want to discourage it coming into my garden. How to do it, please help
Informative and sensible, as always. Thank you Morag.

The smartest American I ever came across on the Internet! Proud to see an American realizing this dream! America in my opinion is a place where there is control everywhere, its a police state, bills coming through the post almost everyday, rules for everything, uncle Sam on our tails all the time! Some americans are cool people, but when your live here in America , the American friendliness goes away! Why? In general people are not warm, not that caring, there is no trust, neighbors dont talk to each other! In America, its all about the money you have, not who you are as a person! Portugal is indeed a friendly nation, Portugal does not advertise bullshit food like they do in the States! Portugal offers peace, tranquility , peace of mind when you live there, its a great country!
Portuguese work to live, In America, Americans live to work!
Remember the old saying: LIVE THE AMERICAN DREAM, The thing is that you have to be asleep to believe it!
I recommend anyone to experience living in Portugal, great people, great food, peace, no cops everywhere, great beaches, and plus you feel alive in Portugal!
Well done my man! i dont blame you for leaving Arizona! Its too hot there!
Arpaio is there too, busy catching up with all the Mexicans crossing the border to steal american jobs and get benefits! ahahahhaa
Viva Portugal caralho!
