The style of the Litterati presents a trunk usually very long and slender. The name was thus indicated in America to define a style appreciated by intellectuals. In fact, this style applies the pictorial technique of some Japanese artists to bonsai. The shape of the tree is absolutely free and the branches are arranged irregularly in all directions, especially in the apical part of the plant. In this style, more than in others, it is however necessary that the bonsai present a certain balance. This style is particularly suitable for conifers, but it can also be used successfully on hardwoods. The most suitable materials for starting a tree in this style are plants collected in nature, which often already have some characteristic features of this type (long and narrow trunk, branches only in the apical part, etc.)
