If you think pruning your own garden hedge is a chore, spare a thought for the gardener who spends 10 weeks a year cutting the mighty Yews at Powis Castle. Working 50 feet up in the air on a cherry-picker, he makes sure this 400 year old monster plus all the other garden yews are kept in good shape. At least times have changed thanks to power tools – in the old days a team of 10 gardeners would spend up to 4 months trimming with hand shears!
