Hi, about a week ago they gave me an Ilex Crenata of about 15-16 years or at least so it says on the label, the plant is about 15 cm high, it is well formed and beautiful thick, the ground is covered with a some moss, I read on some online sites that it is a very resistant plant to both the cold and the sun, for now I have put it out, I would like to have some more information about irrigation, possible fertilization / pruning and or repotting. I searched on your cards but I did not find any matches! thanks for the answers

Dear Alex,

as you said, ilex bonsai is very resistant to frost, in any case I recommend that you keep it in a sunny area in winter, and if the pot is very small, cover it with non-woven fabric, in order to avoid all the earth being exposed to frost, with obvious danger for the roots. It is a beautiful hardy plant, with minute foliage, so it does not require special care. It is repotted at the end of winter, every 2-3 years, with cutting of the redices; in spring it is fertilized with a special product for bonsai, and for the whole vegetative season the shoots are topped. Watering is regular, from March to October; in the cold season water sporadically, avoiding leaving the soil completely dry for long periods of time, especially if the climate is mild.
