This is a continuation of the potatoes I have growing in my FAWN system. I had 9 containers grow Rooster and Red Norland potatoes. These potatoes were dying back. Well 2 were for sure. I ended up getting a good deal of potatoes, but it took 3 pots to do it. If I can get this much out of one pot, I’ll have reached where I want to be. Enjoy the potato reveal! I grow in a system I call FAWN which is a modified hydroponic drip system. The media I grow in is aged rice hulls with parboiled rice hulls mixed. This has proven to be a great mix for me. I use Masterblend fertilizer as my nutrients to every plant grown. I’ve been pretty successful with my setup growing hydroponic tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, squash, cucumbers, cabbage, cauliflower, lettuce, turnip greens, corn, potatoes, kale, carrots, beets, spinach, onions, leeks, and even okra! Everything a gardener would desire. I also dabble in other areas like growing in raised beds, growing in a ground garden, grafting, pond activities, growing fruits, and other projects on the homestead. Thank you so much for stopping in! Harvested too early. You should have allowd the stem and the leaves to dry out and be come brown. Potatoes would have been larger

Not too shabby. I have a raised potato bed and a 60 gallon trash can with several layers of potatoes to see how that works. So far the container plants look every bit as good or better than the raised bed. If the container produces at all decently, next year I'll cut holes in the sides at different levels to allow the plants to grow outside the container and make it easier to plant additional layers.

Do you have a plan to try and improve ? I would guess that your nutrient solution and frequency of feeds or duration, might have some impact. From my experience of growing in soil in containers, watering and consistency is the element that affects the size and yield the most and secondary is fertilizing or no fertilizer if the soil is good. Of course good seed potatoes helps to. Cheers. 🙂

I was under the impression hydroponics was strictly non-soil growing. It seemed like this was simply container growing.

Looks like a good amount for a bucket. They looked great once they were cleaned up. Great job!

Those suckers sure are pretty when they're cleaned up. Harvesting those potatoes is a little like unwrapping Christmas presents.
