Basil from seed to harvest in 6 weeks Video Rating: / 5 After screwing around growing Basil, Sage, and Kale for several months with both Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) and Deep Water Culture (DWC) I settled on this cleaner more accessible vertical farming design. The top shelves are a combination of 660nm red, 430nm blue, and cool white 6500k LED strips. I’m primarily using these top shelves for microgreens, seed, and clone/clipping propagation with a heat mat beneath them. The middle shelf has my Organic Ever-Bearing Seascape Strawberries and my Goji Berry Tree (Wolf Berry). I’m using one high output T5 grow light, a 100 watt LED COB on a heatsink and a 660nm red LED bulb for fruiting the Goji Berries on this shelf. The lower shelf has two high output T5 grow lights exclusively for my adaptogenic herbs. This level has my Gotu Kola (Centella Asiatica), Jiaogulan (Gynostemma Pentaphyllum), Sage and Arugula. The totes are currently using both an air stone to oxygenate the nutrient water for the tap roots and an ultrasonic fog maker to aerosol the air roots with 5 micron nutrient particles, so a combo of hydroponics and fogponics technique. I will be doing away with the airstones eventually and adding a nano bubble infusion into the water which will be structured reverse osmosis water. The issue with hydroponics is you must purchase "plant food" or nutrition and supplements which are more costly.
