The hydroponic grocery store is a new concept seeded and watered by a desert, a food desert. While there’s no one standard definition to go by, food deserts are generally considered to be places where residents do not have access to affordable nutritious foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Instead of grocery stores or farmers’ markets, these areas often have convenience stores and gas stations with limited shelf space available for healthy options — making nutritious foods virtually inaccessible for many families there.

Thats what makes us so appealing! Instead of an off the shelf approach, we offer the customer a choice of picking the fruit or vegetable off the vine. Similar to the way a consumer feels the first time walking into an exotic fish aquarium store. The customer is welcomed by an array of colored lights not often seen before. For some adults and kids alike, it may be the first time seeing the food being grown in front of them, giving them a connection to their food.

We will operate at a 3 tier level from the beginning. Adopting methods used in grocery stores, precision agriculture, and military technology, we will produce a standard for the new store model and establish a foothold in tech used in operations to sell to similar up and coming businesses.With a decrease in farm land and an increase in urbanization, we only see our model being replicated, not depreciated.

1) We will have a grocery store that sells the hydroponic produce and normal produce similar to a farmers market but since we use aquaponics to supplement the nutrient needs of the plant we will also dive into a restaurant.
2)The back of the house will be a restaurant selling tilapia and crayfish or soul food for lack of a better term. This simple but robust menu will draw in people who normally just buy food in meal boxes but also makes them walk past our whole garden to get to it. We plan to adapt the model to post covid-19 conditions and plan to equip a Ipad robot to take orders and look at plants. Ipad robots that can also run fully autonomous thanks to our already established software stack.
3)We will have an inhouse science and engineering team. Each plant is monitored by a camera/sensors with a computer vision system. We will be gathering data on everything and designing software and hardware to be utilized across a set of different industries. Similar to Trimbal, meijer, amazon, etc.

Our software and A.I. has already won a national science foundation award and other technologies are being developed and will continue to be developed from the innovators at Fahrenheight117. The store is just one giant example piece for a set of multiple industries having taken opensource technologies from the fields of geospatial data science, horticulture, software engineering and neuroscience.

To grow 1 kilogram of tomatoes in Intensive farming requires 400 liters of water, in hydroponics 70 liters of water, and only 20 liters of water for aeroponics.[7] Because of the lack of water needed to grow produce, it would be possible in the future for harsh environments which don’t have much. accessible water, to be able to grow their own food.[8]
