Watermelon Challenge Part 2 Plain 2 Grow Systems 7 Feet of Hydroponic Melon Vine Milk Jug!

Watermelon Challenge Part 2 Plain 2 Grow Systems Hydroculture Aeroponic Water Aqua Easy Amazing Inexpensive Seven Feet of Hydroponic Melon Vine Gallon Jug

This video is part 2 of my attempt to grow a Crimson Sweet watermelon from my hybrid aeroponic nutrient film technique milk jug system.

Part 1 and 2 are the results of a bet with my twelve year-old homeschooled son that I could grow just about anything from this super-simple, inexpensive, and compact system.

Part 1 and 2 show the progress of the watermelon through 3 months of experimenting, coaxing, and mild expletives (none in the videos). I almost killed it by accidentally breaking the main stem nearly in half! After using a special plant medicine that I concocted to bring back the plant to health, I realized late in the game that I was also probably starving it.

I was using nutrient levels that were optimal for my passive Hydro Sock ( HydroSock) system but the hybrid system you see here seems to be capable of handling significantly higher nutrient levels. Unfortunately, I haven’t finished the newer greenhouse that would be a better plant environment than my low-humidity, barely adequate indoor plant starting area. I am seeing buds but I may or may not get a watermelon.

chefrum, yes I believe that watermelons and hydro, in general, aren't a good match. As you know, they take up a lot of space, time, and patience. I did this on my son's dare, and to also show that the hybrid active recirculation milkjug hydro was a very easy and effective way to do hydro. If I hadn't damaged the main stem, I believe I would have yielded a watermelon. It was an interesting and fun challenge, but I'm sticking to more traditional hydro plants. Thanks! Plain 2 Grow Jim

I love growing crimson sweet watermelons so much I have heirloom seeds for them. 90 days and no male and female flowers popping is a major problem. Hydro and watermelon don't mix. Good thing you tried with a variety that grows small

The issue was that you used base nutes only. You have to combine supplements to the base nutes(grow, micro, and bloom).

So, for example, you would combine your grow nutrient with a humic acid, vitamin B, a carb supplement, a calcium/magnesium supplement, and I'd even feed a beneficial bacteria such as myccorhizae throughout the grow cycle.

Let me suggest using technaflora'a recipe for success. Feed chart and dosages are included in the kit.

FYI, the bending of the stem "helped" the plant more than you know. It is a technique known as "super cropping".

    Much luv.

What was the outcome? Is it still growing? Did you get a watermelon? Do you have winning lottery numbers?  LOL I was asking so many questions that I'd slip one in 🙂
