In this DIY video, we show you how to install a vertical garden to turn an empty wall into a convenient place to grow fresh herbs and leafy green vegetables. The vertical garden featured here is the Whites Garden Up Wall, which comes in a kit featuring one frame and three pots. The system is modular, so you can add more panels and pots as required. Find out more about the Whites Garden Up range here: http://whitesgroup.com.au/garden-up/wall-mount/garden-up-wall-details.html For this project, you’ll need a drill, a masonry drill bit, screws, wall anchors, a tape measure, a spirit level, a screwdriver, a pencil, and safety glasses. You’ll also need a selection of plants to grow in your vertical garden. First, position the frame against the wall, and check that it’s spaced evenly using a tape measure, then check that it’s level. Mark the position of the mounting holes using a pencil, then drill holes using a masonry drill bit. If drilling into aerated concrete blocks, don’t use the hammer function on your drill. Tap in the wall anchors using a hammer, and trim the to size if necessary. Hold the frame in place, then drive the screws through the mounting holes into the wall anchors, tightening by hand with a screwdriver. The next step is to pot up the vertical garden. We’re using a selection of herbs and leafy greens, with flowers to add colour. Just add the plants, the back fill with soil. All that’s left to do is hang the pots, then water the plants. It’s that easy to turn a blank wall into a productive kitchen garden that takes up hardly any space, and provides a supply of fresh herbs for all your favourite dishes.
