This video demonstrates how to easily build an 8′ trellis using electrical conduit, nylon netting, elbows and rebar for support. This is an excellent trellis to use for growing squash and pumpkin vertically as you will see in the video. I show my butternut squash growing on a 6′ trellis and then, as an example, I make and assemble an 8′ trellis. This trellis will withstand winds and heavy rains and will last a lifetime. I know it is a small thing, if your saw had more teeth it would be easier to cut the conduit. I always use a 32 tooth per inch (I don't know what that would be in metric) and I have cut a lot.
I'm going to grow an early Butternut variety with compact vines on my bean trellis, the vines get about 2 meters long, the squash is a little smaller around 1Kg. Don't believe supporting the fruits will be an issue. Also have a larger vining type to grow in a field with pumpkins.
Hey you don't need slings for the squash as they won't fall off.
Cool, also in Canada
Thanks for posting this. I was trying to figure out what to do with my out of control zucchini and squash. Can I do this now our is it too late?
