Want to grow a vegetable garden in Florida? Sunlight is an important factor when vegetable gardening. It’s also one factor you can’t easily change once you’ve started your garden. In this video, Elise Pickett of The Urban Harvest shares exactly how much sunlight you need when growing vegetables in Florida.
SPOILER ALERT: It’s not the same as the rest of the country (the standard 8 hours). Watch the video to see what amount of sunlight is appropriate in Florida and what to do if you do have to grow in shade.

Nice information
Nice efort
Very happy I found this im zone10a fort Myers Florida
On one side of my house it gets no sun at all but the ground is clear and I would love to take advantage and grow any edible that could possibly grow there, any suggestions pleaseee?
hi what is the tree with the red fruit/vegtable on it behind you?
Suggestion, use a photographers' app to track the sun at your location to estimate the amount of sun you will get.
Hello, Tampa beginner gardener here. I’ve an existing large garden bed box that gets full sun all day till 6pm. I am thinking nothing will survive our FL summers, unless it has shade. What grade of mesh would you suggest for a summer garden? I have seedlings of carrots, beans, green onion, cucumber …again a total neub here. Any shade advise appreciated, I know there’s different grades but no idea what needed for this zone.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Great info. I'm starting a garden again after about 20 plus years and have forgotten a Bunch!! I have watched many good garden channels, but could never find one for our specific area. It's nice to re-learn what grows here & when. Thanks!
Very informative , thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing!
Are you in St.Petersburg? Good luck thanks for the information.
I've selected a site that may have too much sun. Any recommendations for adding a little shade?
