I love Dino Kale and Red Russian. Much less bitter tasting. And the cabbage looper caterpillars are VERY destructive. BT helps with them. Also covering with Tulie cloth.

Our timing couldnt be better CG! I just got three packs of High mowing organic non gmo Lacinato dinosaur kale/ heirloom variety! I am sooo psyched to get them going. Up here in northern vermont i actually watched my neighbors kale last through three snowstorms before it was harvested a couple weeks ago! Wonderful video CG, thanks from beautiful VERMONT!

The thing that shocked me about kale is how well it takes heat. I had mine in full sun and it looked fresh and happy all summer. The leaves also last a long time in flower arrangements.

can you please make a video of growing Swiss chard and lettuce from seed

Red Russian kale is my favorite, the leaves are large and more tender than other variety. I guess I prefer the smooth leaves over ruffles, but the taste is best to me as well. It does prefer cooler temperature and can't stand the heat compared to Lacinato. I wasn't a fan of the scarlet kale, it doesn't seem to grow big for me.

    Thank you for detailed info.

My experience: I saved seeds from a curly kale that survived -30C and 7 months of pure winter, crop from those seeds was a disaster. 2016, I did grow a few from seeds and a flat mixed with all verities, they turned out bitter by July/August, I left them in ground to see if they pop up in May or not. I love curly kale and use them in my favorite salad mix.
Question: Have you ever tried cooking kale as replacement for mustard green (saraoon ka saag) these days most of South Asian are using broccoli raab leaves for saag purée.

Thanks for the great video featuring one of my favorite veggies! Kales are easy to grow in a home garden. They are very nutritious. That's why I always have kales growing in my garden. My favorite varieties are Red Russian and Lacinato (Italian heirloom variety). I noticed that kale leaves are more tender, sweeter, and good-tasting during the cold months.
