I’ve started my fall garden! I’m growing cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts vertically in stacked containers and hydroponically. Holly mackerel, I might open a worm hole with all this experimentation. So, yeah, I’m employing the principles of wicking to help me grow lots of brassicas in liimited space. Follow along to see if it works.

A little about my setup. I have a hydroponic greenhouse. I grow in a system I call FAWN which is a modified hydroponic drip system. The media I grow in is aged rice hulls with parboiled rice hulls mixed. This has proven to be a great mix for me. I use Masterblend fertilizer as my nutrients to every plant grown. I’ve been pretty successful with my setup growing hydroponic tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, squash, cucumbers, cabbage, cauliflower, lettuce, turnip greens, corn, potatoes, kale, carrots, beets, spinach, onions, leeks, and even okra! Everything a gardener would desire. I also dabble in other areas like growing in raised beds, growing in a ground garden, grafting, pond activities, growing fruits, and other projects on the homestead.
Thank you so much for stopping in!
I want to grow cabbage and lettuce. But where do I get the seeds? Where do I get the small lettuce plant from to grow?
Poor rating due to poor editing. Got the impression you were cramming too much into video without complete explanation. But later got the info that should have been there sooner. Part about what you were planting and where was done twice, no 3 times because 2nd time around you got names mixed up and restated them again (boring). Show the end result then explain each part. When you filled elbows you could have explained about needing the extensions upward. Personally why not put starts in the elbows with upward pipe because of long roots? Or even start seeds in the elbows or explain why you think its a bad idea? You could have shown the packages that the seeds came in, taped to the base, so we could see what the seedlings were & where. Would be less boring than the camera waving around sometimes showing more than one tower. Plus you would have the names correct the first time around.
When is your first frost date? It's to late for me for a fall garden as mine is mid Oct. Good luck with the Brussels Sprouts. I've always had trouble growing them but I planted the last ones in august and they look pretty good now.
I must say I do admire your experimental prowess ; )
I've been out of commission for a few months, Brent. Now I've got to catch up on all your shenanigans LOL. Looks like you've pretty much mastered this system. LOVE the vertical brassica system! BTW, when the brussels sprouts get tall enough for you, don't forget to snip the growing tip off the plants so their energy goes into the sprouts. (Took me 30 years to learn that!)
Very cool way to garden. looking forward to seeing the Brussels sprouts grow.
Thanks for sharing

You use a fork handle…half my silverware is somewhere in the garden, LOL!
Growing vertically inside and outside the greenhouse is definitely on my agenda!!
