Growing food in Phoenix Arizona is possible. In my backyard in Phoenix Arizona I have had success growing broccoli, artichoke, citrus and much more. I would say learn to fertilize plants and create microclimates in your backyard or in your farm.
Living in Arizona is quite a unique experience because of the vastness that the state offers. From the Sonoran Desert in the south to the high country in the north all the way up towards the Four Corners east and the Grand Canyon in the west. Known as the Grand Canyon state, Arizona is diverse in many ways. The state tree is the Palo Verde, the state cactus is the Saguaro, the state bird is the Cactus wren. Did u amend your soil first or you plant directly to the bare arizona soil? Cause your plants are looking amazing
I just bought a few acres in mohave county what do I need to grow food plants in the sandy soil
You made a beautiful work of art with your garden and pond. Have you watched Pam Mace who blogs from Tempe and had a beautiful garden. Her yard is quite grown now. Had to take out some trees in favor of date palms because of expensive water. Surprised you don't have a Moringa tree. Praised for it's health benefits and fast growth. I would have a problem with Arizona if I couldn't have an Avacàdo tree. I know they have a native tree you can get from a well know grower in Tempe or Glendale. Don't know exact location. He is a big guy with long hair pulled back. Got a beautiful Nursery of rare trees.. good luck as your garden grows.
Very nice
This is amazing! Some fresh stuff goin on in your yard. Have you ever thought about woodchipping for soil? The wood chips break down and make a super nutrient rich soil for growing in the desert. Such a cool backyard space
Jeff, awesome video! If you are interested in tropical fruit trees, definitely look up Shamus O’Leary. He has an orchard in Glendale and I’ve heard nothing but great things about him. Your plants look fantastic! I used to grow a garden until a couple of months ago but had to shut it down because I hurt my back and can’t really bent down anymore… Definitely check out Shamus – great kid!
I'm not a home owner YET, however I have always dreamed of starting a productive food and herbal garden. Glad to see another Arizona resident who made this a reality! Thanks for sharing.
Growing plants here is easy except for when the temperatures rise and the sun gets harsh, but you can use mesh to provide shade without fully blocking the light.
Wow this is impressive! Looks like you put a lot of time into getting this to take off. I've been working to make the dream to move to AZ into reality, now I have a new goal to eventually lock down a house with a backyard that I can work! The trees are a great move. I think I'll look into planting egg plant and okra, as I believe they do well in the heat.
You did a great job, Jeff!
You've got a little oasis back there!
Hey Jeff, great video! If I were to get an apartment, can I grow food there? Is there a way to do that? What kind of plants can I grow, say, on the windowsill or balcony?
Very inspiring. Ive always wanted to grow my own foods. And this video has my wheels spinning again.
Got to watch out for the Scorpios.
I visited Arizona last summer. I really enjoyed the sun and environment. Also I think it may have helped my allergies.
Wow great job Jeff, you've done a phenomenal job with your backyard, thanks for sharing all those beauties with us!
The squash plant around the 9:30 mark looks to be spaghetti squash.
One more important note. During the summer especially, do not water the plants during the heat of the day. Also, you'll need to shade the "crops" from the sun during the peak heat times during the summer.
