Aquaponics Grow Tower medium using straw—system shows potential of being a very sound method supporting plants, worms, and microbes. Giving plants plenty of moisture and oxygen and nutrients! After 4 months of growing with straw, I came to the conclusion that straw is not feasible as a grow medium—- I found that the straw decomposes too quickly, settles to the bottom of the tube and compacts there smothering the roots in that area. what seems to be doing best, is to have no medium, plants in a net pot or foam support, and just let the plant roots carry the water down the tube Related PostsPt.6/10 How to Build a Hydroponic Grow Tower System: Almost Finished: )Hydroponic Grow Tower Part 2 of 3Grow Tower #2 Я СТАНОВЛЮСЬ СИЛЬНЕЕ 😂Pt.2/10 How to Build a Hydroponic Vertical Grow Tower System and 11lb Chocolate Bar to the Rescue: )How to grow tomatoes on a Tower GardenCan you grow tomatoes, peppers and other fruiting crops in a Tower Garden? | True Garden

Hi Donald, thanks for your videos. They are fun to watch. I have a question. Approximately how much pump capacity do I need per tower? Since pumps here are rated in Liter per hour, a 5-warr 400 Liter/hour pump will approximately serve how many towers?

Have you needed to use plant nutrient solutions to grow your vegetables?

Hi Donald, I just found your channel and I am looking forward to going through all of your videos. I am new this year to hydroponics, and really admire your setup. The overhead nutrient delivery in this video is awesome, simple and effective. It is too bad the straw didn't  work as a grow medium. Thanks for taking the time to make your channel.

At 4 min. I am attaching the screen to the top of the tower—- this was a mistake and was removed— good observation Don Avant!

At about 4 min, he says he's attaching the screen to the bottom of the grow tube…Is is just me, or does it look like he's attaching it to the top?

Did you ever try coconut wool as a medium? We use it instead of rock wool as a substrate for the net-pots, it works really well!

Would you just replace the straw after each grow?
