Prepare Your Garden For Winter! Final Summer Harvest | Homestead Kids

Prepare Your Garden For Winter! Final Summer Harvest. Yes, this video is a bit late, but better late than never! 🙂 Now that summer is over, it’s time to prepare your garden for winter and hopefully you have already done your winter gardening. Any area of garden that you will not be planting to a winter garden should be cleaned of last seasons garden debris. If you till your soil, it would be a good time to get out the rototiller and rototill the area once to kill harmful insect larva that hide in the soil and under garden debris. Many people don’t cultivate their garden but use back to eden or no-till gardening methods. Each style has benefits and drawbacks. Harvest the last of your summer produce if you haven’t already done so too! It’s not necessary to leave the produce out to rot in the garden. If you don’t use it or preserve it, feed it to your animals, compost it or even give it away to friends and neighbors!
Keeping your garden clean helps make it ready for next season and help prevent disease and insect problems the next spring. After all, when homesteading, we rely heavily on our gardens!

Great crop! Green pumpkins can be ripened – just do a Google search. If they're hybrid pumpkins, you can have some fun with the seeds, not knowing what you'll get out of them if planted. So long as the green tomatoes are not squooshy, they can still be fried. You know it's fall when the kids don the hoodies!

Your house is coming on really well. I bet you'll be pleased to have it done for the winter. I'm getting my garden ready for winter too when I can get outside between the deluges and gales. Over an inch of rain fell last night and this morning and there is loads of flooding in the west. At least its mild, up to 60F today. It looks a bit cooler in your video but clear blue skies again and so dry! You seem to hardly ever get rain except for summer storms? Your pumpkins look great, how do you keep everything watered or do the kids do it???

You guys have prompted me to start a garden next year. Thinking about experimenting with above the ground bed. You guys ever did any of that? I noticed the kids always closes the knife blade. Thats a good habit to have.

The soil looks pretty good there. Glad to see Hanna up and about. SkyGuy, shoes, really?? I juicy worm + 1 potato bug and 1squash bug today 🙂 One nice thing about living away from the city is no worry about terrorist attacks . We were in a few of the places in Paris in April and were going back next week. Perhaps we will just stay in Italy. We pray for all the families and the injured in Paris. Hugs to all
