Hydroponics is a subset of hydroculture and is a method of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions, in water, without soil.
Plants may be grown with their roots in the mineral solution only, or in an inert medium, such as perlite, Vermiculite, coco peat or gravel.
The earliest published work on growing plants without soil was the book Sylva Sylvarum, 1627 by Francis Bacon, printed a year after his death.
Benefits / Advantage
1. Nutrient and water recirculation – Up to 90% Less water Require.
2. Conservation of water and nutrients.- Feature of all systems.
3. Reduction of land Pollution and Underground water Pollution.
4. Crop Specific Nutrient Fertilizer Hence, Superior taste, Superior Quality, Appearance, Uniformity and Extended Self-life.
5. Utilization of Vertical Space Hence Maximum Production per acre.
6. Crops can be grown where no suitable soil or soil is contaminated with disease. or we can Grow Plants on Terrace, in Balcony, Desert, Space, Under Water.
7. No Weed, No Labor for tilling, cultivating, fumigating, watering, and other traditional practices.
8. No Soil-borne plant diseases and Pest.
9. More complete control of the environment is generally a feature of the all Hydroponic system. Including
-Root environment,
-Timely nutrient feeding or irrigation,
-In Greenhouse: light, temperature and humidity can be manipulated.
10. The beginner can start from Balcony / Terrace / Kitchen-garden.
11. A hydroponic system can be clean, lightweight, and mechanized.
