Steve Wing received his Ph.D. in epidemiology from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he is currently an associate professor. Recent work has focused on environmental injustice and health effects of ionizing radiation, industrial animal production, sewage sludge, and landfills. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
I was one of his students, when he passed away. I miss him.
Steve Wing passed away on November 9, 2016. He was a wise man, a fine musician, and a great friend.
…..and some of us can stop eating poop, I mean pork.
dudes going to stop nothing, I am a hog farmer so i know how it all works, Some of his information was inaccurate. Most of it was true, But nothing is going to change, nobody who is in a substantial position in the area of hog farming is going to be willing to completely abort their investment, we are making to much money!!!!!
so factory farming hurts animals AND people, there is nothing good about this
Really makes u think.
Thanks to Dr. Steve Wing and TEDx Manhattan for this helpful presentation. Our industrial agriculture system is causing massive harm to people and animals. I think Dr. Wing gets it right. Each of us can choose to buy foods that were produced more responsibly. But we can't stop there if we want to put an end to these terrible abuses. We must also demand that governments and businesses act now to end the worst practices. Thanks to everyone working for food systems that are more just and healthy.
An eye opening video. Thanks for sharing this presentation.
Antibiotics are needed because the pigs are kept in such apalling conditions that diseases is rife.
