On the morning of April 11, 2020, demolition crews imploded the smokestack of the Crawford Station Coal Plant. Located in the South Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago, the 96-year-old plant closed in 2012 after years of environmental concerns and community protest.
I filmed this from over 8 miles away in the Lakeview East neighborhood, and the sound waves of the explosion took over 40 seconds to reach us!
