That's clever. I might try this.
Might be a good idea to add a swivel to the top, and rotate 90 degrees every time you water them…make the growth more even, and prevent such a huge light tropism from forming.

I like the idea of the two holes, but you would have to space the columns farther apart and put the holes sideways so the plants grow evenly. Otherwise, the plant/growth near the window will grow/produce more than the back one.

well actually if u the bottom bottles were green u would not have the algaein them or if they where black. amature hour..
