I just had beet salad last night: lettuce beets, cherry tomatoes, walnuts and goat cheese in red wine vinaigrette. It was so yummy, can’t wait harvest my own beets for the first time! But I don’t think I spaced them correctly so I might get tiny beets. =/

Besides the roots the leaves are wonderfull they tast like spinage!
Beets and Swiss chard are different varieties of the same plant, beta vulgaris. If you live in a mild winter area and leave chard in the ground long enough, a beet root will form, though not very tasty.
Do you just throw compost on top or work it into the soil without disturbing the existing plants?
What's your success rate in transplanting ? I was told direct sowing is good.
