Interesting! I've found that tomatoes do better under grow lights than my leafy vegetables. All my lettuce seedlings died and the last 3 spinach are on their way out, but I have about 64 tomato plants doing well.

where are you going to plant all those plants? Outdoors i hope, or do you plan on planting all those plants in your garage in the winter ? is this going to be indoor greenhouse for food? Just food for thought..

Buildinghydroponics looks like difficult especially when you have no idea about building hydroponics before, but it isn't.

Excellent! Loose the foil and get Mylar…and drop those lites as close as possible and you will see more rapid growth…

Nice system!  We can totally help you automate this!  😉

Love the system dude, only thing I might suggest is pulling the foil off your sono tube and getting a reflective white from your local hydroponic store. Aluminum foil is about 55% reflective tops (all those creases will reduce that considerably). A regular white paint is only going to be 75-85% reflective and will improve the size of those tomatoes.

Yes…just above the seedlings almost touching. This is the cheapest lighting you can get away with (T-12s and T-8s). Go with T-5s if it's in your budget or LED's. I just bought my 1st T-5 fixture and there's no comparison….Makes me want to throw all this other lighting out.

Do you move your lights lower when your plants are smaller at the beginning ?

I use general hydroponics. It's good for 2 weeks, but I have gone 3. Sometimes if your plants are big you will need to add or top off weekly.

what kind of fertilizer do you use in your system ?
and when you mixed the nutrions how many days will the water be usable ? do you need to add fertilizers every day or once a week ?

  • lakebound09 1 year ago
