Students at Lower Canada College in Montreal, Quebec engineered & programmed both an automated hydroponics & vertical soil based garden. They wanted to explore the most energy efficient, environmentally friendly method, optimal conditions for growing food. They compared 5 growing conditions that included indoor hydroponics with and without LED night lighting, indoor soil based gardens with and without LED lights, and a replication of these conditions outside. Within each condition, they also compared the growth of different plant species. This video summarizes their process and results, and supports the idea that schools, students and their families, can feasibly use existing indoor energy to grow food and become more nutritionally aware. The results of this project are being presented Mr. Auclair at ISTE2017 in San Antonio, Texas. Twitter @chrisauclair
