Hydroponics is a good system but it also have some disadvantage, you need to purchase some "plant food", nutrition and supplements which may be high-priced. Before building any hydroponics system, you should check out the benefit from aquaponics system, which can automate 95% of work.?
Always wash clay grow medium before adding to unit. Unit will get very milky & clogged up immediately if you do not rinse thoroughly.
depends what you are growing. for what this grower grows that system is only good for the veg stage of growth as there is no nutrients to get the flowering stage done and you cant add flowering nutes as then you imbalance the aquaponics delicate nute and bacteria levels that will then kill the plants. but yeah if your plants are suited to only needing P and N nutes then this system is a GREAT way to go
the tube is to hold the drain level konstant for case of your pump fails and the water collects all in the drainage so its pressed the overflow water back thru the top of the plant ,so you got a closed system,for my opinion the tube is too short if you dont want a flood system outside your plants 😀
the question that interests me is whats up with waterchange .
and what you do with the root part between you keep the resoirvoir away(for example an waterchange) :S
HELP— When mixing the nutriments do u only mix 1 gallon of nutriments and the rest water or do you mix nutriments for every gallon…..? I use a TDS PPM meter and test my gallon of nutriments then add the rest of the water test it again and the ppm is lower by a half. So fill the reservoir with water then mix nutrients to proper the proper PPM or jus the 1 gal ? My plants are healthy but they arent groing as fast as my ones I have in Promix w General Organics line up.
I have waterfarms too. How do you control? the algae growth on the hydroton.

I haven't.. However I'm currently running DWC buckets.. same concept, but I dropped the drip ring, and got a bigger pump. These kits are great if you only need 1 or 2 of them and you don't want to take the time assembling your own. I need 6 of them, so I went out and built my own for about half the price.
Have you used your Hydrofarm bucket system yet.
i dont know but the water level is a basic plumbing feature, especially so in DWC setups, it merely shows the water level without interfering with the hydroponic action. as mentioned below, as long as the level is higher then the highest possible water point then you will be fine
