G’Day Folks. Had someone suggest I was getting incorrect readings from the water tests so I thought I’d so a test & share the results. Also included a bit of a general round up on how the cycling is proceeding, some information on midge flies & how I plant out the seedlings.

Hello Rob, What do you recomend to que rid of midgefly larvae infestation? Been having that problem.
I love alot of midge fly in my system at the moment. Are they a problem? Should I try get rid of them?
I saw a aquaponics system in Hawaii on YouTube were they used a bag hung in the fishtank of grounded up oystershells to help level the PH.

Would a rain water butt with some decomposing leaves be a good source of starting bacteria for cycling? And same question for an two year old outdoor hydroponic clay media system with bits of dead leaves and roots. Or is both no different to a brand new system.
Can midge flies be harmful towards my plants? Is it okay to eat?

I've tried frying up those caterpillars and eating them once they get a bit larger (~1cm long) – I figure if they ate my salad veggies at least I can get to eat my salad greens indirectly – but they just taste like grass so not really worth the effort.
Yup, every year my horseraddish gets hit & in 12-24 hours the leaves are stalks. My aquarium fish love a good feed of the caterpillars tho.
I had these on my roses in summer 2020, decimated the leaves, what’s best to get rid of them without harming all other wildlife

these sort of look the the army worms that we get here. They can march through a field and leave a trail of destruction.

WOW!!!O.O So many…..and they're all ALIVE!!!! Like I can almost hear plants screaming in agony as they get bit into by the feisty caterpillars! Hehehehe…..good thing we have organic pesticides to rid ourselves of the critters! ;D
