What is aquaponics?
Aquaponics is an extension of hydroponics, or soil-less growing. In aquaponics, plant nutrients come from fish waste instead of a nutrient solution.

Who should do aquaponics?
Anyone. From small scale to large scale, aquaponics is possible in many configurations. You can design and customize your system however it fits you and your situation best.

The biggest obstacle to aquaponics growers is:

The biggest obstacle is lack of understanding. The goal of this podcast is to address that challenge and make it possible (and easy) for you to build a quality system the first time, with no expensive mistakes. You can download our “Top 10 Mistakes Aquaponic Growers Make” here.

We’re so excited to finally launch this aquaponics podcast. It’s a first of it’s kind and we’re going to pack as much value as we can into each episode.

Remember, aquaponics can be an incredible way to grow veggies, whether on a small commercial sale or merely for your own pleasure as a hobby system. Because aquaponics is a relatively new concept, there can be a lot of confusion and hype. We hope you’ll take it upon yourself to always do your homework before jumping into any “magic pill” system designs that have yet to prove themselves and will just end up costing you time, money and your excitement for the concept.

We’ll have more Aquaponics Academy episodes airing each week so be sure to subscribe on iTunes!

What would cause the plant ROOTS to turn into a dark/dirty brown? The PH 6.0; Nitrite 0; Nitrate 140; Ammonia 0, from a 45 gallon tank containing 10 pan fish. The roots were white and healthy from a traditional grow bed (MiracleGrow bed). My swirl filter captures a lot of the solids allowing mostly nutrient water to enter my flood/drain system. Should I add nutrients to my sump tank? If so, what nutrients?

I have a question about the health of a aquaponics system. My question is When your fish have a health problem that needs to be treated do the meds used to save the fish contaminate your plants and vegetables?

Hi,  Thanks for the great videos.   I have a question about disolved oxegyn at 7,000 feet.  what would be the max DO I could achieve at 65 degrees farenhiegt?   I am in flagstaff AZ.  IT gets cold here.   I am researching and planning right now and have found your videos most helpful.

Dr. Storey!!!  I am in the gathering information stage of Aquaponics.  Your podcast is both timely and valuable to me.  Within the next six to 8 months, I am looking to put together a system that will provide fodder to our protein sources chickens (25) and rabbits (5-20) while producing 50% of the veg for our family of 6.  I live on the central coast of California and have about 6000 sq ft to work with.  I am very interested in future installments!!!  -John

I think I have watched just about every video that has been put up on Aquaponics. I have also watched all of yours from the very beginning. The one thing that sets you apart, in my opinion, is that your approach is informative but more importantly honest. I can’t think of anyone that is putting out more realistic information on these types of systems. Your depth of knowledge is unmatched as well.  I have friends that have systems and they are using your products like the Zipgrow towers. They are very pleased with them. They work very well. I am excited that you are doing the series.

Just subscribed. I have just started binge watching your channel. Will be moving to a 10 Acre property soon and will get started with some IBC setups. Thank you for sharing what you have learned through trial and error!!!!

Outside of the garden. I tried to grow spuds , in one of those DIY potato boxes. I think I got as much as you my friend. And that was the last time I tried to grow spuds. Lol. Mostly because they take up too much realestate in the garden. Anyways, Merry Christmas to you and your family Rob! And wishing you all the best for the new year!

  • Daniel Sanderson-brown

Merry Christmas to you and your family, hope you had a good one. Happy new year to you keep up the good work on your vlogs they are so helpful and inspirational. See you next year.

  • Brendon Case

Merry Christmas. Great time of year to get things done with some time off. I will be harvesting my first 10 fish tomorrow and a slight adjustment on the plumbing while the tank is empty. Then move the Jades that I got in September to the bigger tank. All the best for 2020

  • bigwave fla
