9 Beginner Raised Bed Garden Mistakes to Avoid

Order Birdies raised beds: https://shop.epicgardening.com Raised garden beds are the #1 method I currently use to grow a ton of healthy, epic produce in my garden. But I made A TON of mistakes when I started my raised bed garden, so I figured I’d share them with you so you can hopefully learn from my mistakes instead of making them yourself.

A few good soil mixes:
– 1/3 perlite, 1/3 coco coir, 1/3 compost
– 1/2 topsoil, 1/4 compost, 1/4 grass clippings, straw, leaves, etc.

I am new at all this and I love the show. Gives me lots to think about. I like the idea of letting someone else make the mistakes for me before I plunge into a new project.

So last year was first year doing raised beds or any gardening at all. Have 2 beds 7 feet long by 3 feet wide. Last year most plants did good. Now this year getting ready to plant I didn't do anything to the beds after last year's season what was growing just let it grown winter it died off. That being said this spring would I just need to come in put a mulch or compost over the beds like in the video or need to do more ?

I am starting a new raised bed garden. 3 cynder blocks high. Bottom 6inch is small sticks and shredded paper. I went to the green recycle and got compost. It looks really good black dirt. What do you think I need to add?

Happy I found your video! I want to have one long one along each side of the fence one side gets sun in the morning then shady afternoon and the other side across the yard it’s shade in morning and sun in afternoon. Can you suggest what I can grow in these? I am okay with just flowers in them but if I can grow veggies even better. I have a blank slate in my yard besides a trampoline, shed and a plastic play slide climber and a playhouse. They both can be moved around. Any suggestions snd help appreciated.

Thank you so much for sharing! I jut started following you as I am starting my new garden and propagating/plant life. And, I just love researching and people's intake/advice/experience on how-to's and such.

*I do have a question within the first 5 secs of your video… As I am trying to go as natural/eco-friendly as one can possibly go without reverting back to caveman days. I read that the "better" (yet more of an upkeep) for your raised bed would be all natural/untreated wood, to keep from any chemicals seeping into the dirt and possibly into the crops, etc. What are your thoughts on that since you have some kind of metal/steele raised bed structure. Which btw I would like to add… very cute/stylish and I am sure less of an upkeep!

*With irrigation, I have always thought the whole going out and spraying/talking to my garden (lol, crazy lady) is my dream/idea. But, I do vacation as much as possible and wouldn't want to rely/put that pressure on my friends/family when I am gone. But yes, what would be your thoughts/advice on what kind of irrigation set-up for a 4×4 raised bed times 6-8 in the near future.

*The cover crop you mentioned for a bare bed. Does it add nutrients to the dirt for future crops when it decomposes?

If you track it, you're aware of it. If you're aware of it, you care for it!! YES!!!

Thanks again for the video and time you put into this!! Great video!

I planted cucumbers in raised garden and put them on a inverted V climber. That really helped them stay off the ground but what can you do to keep them from vining everywhere? is there a proper way to prune them? We had a lot of good cucs but they just went crazy.
