Searching for solutions about indoor vertical agriculture, I visited Rob Virgin from Taiwan Hydroponics the developer of the Vertical Hydroponic Grow Tube System. We also went to Home Aquaponics an open to the public test facility for all things aeroponic and aquaponic. Let me take you through a tour of the future of agriculture. This is a solution we will use during the transition to indoor farming during the Grand Solar Minimum.

I purchase Bob's Red Mill stone ground whole wheat flour. As I was dumping what was left of a bag into a canister, I compared the old bag with a new one purchased this week. Both state the only ingredient as "whole grain hard red wheat." However the old bag says 6 gm protein and the new bag says 7 gm protein. Do they test each batch? How does the company determine the protein of their product?
I really want you to try out the Aquaponics system because I truly
beleive its the best way to grow heallthy organic food at home.
Check it – http://bit.ly/accuapon
Thank you David.
no one can live off kale and herbs. you will the most nutrient foods to survive colder climates, like animal products.
LED lighting would have to include UVA and UVB and IR as well as full spectrum visible light, non?
have the plants been tested for nutritional quality?
If you want to see a scalable and PROFITABLE, did I say proven PROFITABLE aquaponic system, I suggest You look at https://www.friendlyaquaponics.com/
These folks have been operating a PROFITABLE system and teaching about aquaponics for over 10 years. They offer teaching seminars as well plans for all sizes of aquaponic systems. They know what they are doing. They have experimented almost all of the systems out there and can tell You what works and what doesn't. Don't waste Your time and, AND $$$ on anything less.
When we fall into the deep Grand Solar minimum, there will be only a few fish that will be able to survive the various climate extremes. And, unless You come up with a NON-ELECTRIC water pumping, the vertical and an aquaponic systems will be a challenge. The water needs to be changed and aerated at a very regular interval. And a true aquaponic system still needs some nutrient suplimentation if You are going to grow all kinds of plants.
I am looking into Vermiponics, using worms instead of fish. Much less water pumping required.
How about peeponics. Using human and animal pee as plant food.
I tried growing lettuce in miracle grow dirt…no natural minerals in that dirt (Miracle Grow Dirt Sucks). Lettuce tasted like water….and plant structure was weak, mushy. Planting in good old earth soil, plant roots can reach that awesome mineral layer. We need those minerals, and you can taste it in the plant. Also, natural forces harden the plant…wind, rain….it all plays it's part with top nutrient bio earth layer and lower mineral earth layer = tastier, stronger, better texture, healthier for our bodies, plants. Also, I would like to see the cost of all that hydroponic equipment compared and how long it takes to get any return on your investment. How much equipment and cost would it take to feed a family of 5 for 1 year? Yes I think the tech part is cool, and I can borrow some things from it myself (DYI), if I need to, but you would never get me to pay top dollar for what I see there. Anyway, it is good to at least see and compare the options. Thank you.
Would like to see the fish tanks too
Dave???
There are several components to the subject . One resource I found that successfully combines these is the Fast track grower (check it out on google) definately the most helpful plan that I've seen. Check out all the extraordinary information .
They will be devoid of minerals, only soil contains minerals …
Just a thought – what are the fish fed on? Is it a closed-loop system?

VERTICAL URBAN AGRICULTURE: Amazing recap of by Will Allen of his career with Growing Power (won the $500,000 MacArthur Genius Grant in 2008) – And funny. At 3:10 "Can anyone tell me? What's different about these kids than the kids today?" Then he says what's different 🙂
If you were doing this on a small scale to sustain (say) just your own family, you would need to grow something that can be stored – eg frozen. (I don't think you can freeze lettuce) also, is it possible to grow root vegetables hydroponically or in those coir tubes. I am thinking that we are likely to have to deal with permafrost, which would make it impossible to grow things like potatoes, carrots etc outside. Do these things need earth or would they grow in water tanks?
Dr Dan Winter has created an apparatus called "Theraphi" which is primarily designed to improve health, but water and seeds passed through his device grow more quickly and produce healthier crops. (As far as I know there is only testimonial evidence of this no specific research). He has many YT videos on this
That's exciting!

Looks like the Belgians may take fries off their menus, due to potato shortages: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/08/10/frites-could-menu-belgium-heatwave-threatens-potato-supply/
What a great informative program. Wow, you blew me away. This one goes into the keep file. The Truth will set you free.
