Hydroponics, a method of hydro-culture, is the fast growing science of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions, without the need for soil. Plants may be grown with their roots directly in the mineral nutrient solution or the plant could be growing in an inert medium, such as perlite, gravel, biochar, mineral wool, expanded clay pebbles or coconut husk that is submerged or bathed in the nutrient solution.
