Rob’s DIY Venturi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZMjDgM3LaU
I recently watched Rob Bob’s (bnbob01) DIY venturi video and it looked like so much fun I thought I’d try my hand at making a small version out of easy to find local parts. I hope to be able to use this in future DWC or recirculating hydroponics experiments.
I think it would be very useful in small hydroponics, aquaponics or aquarium applications for water oxygenation.

Put the air hose at the inlet of the pump. The pump breaks up the air bubbles even more and makes them ultrafine. When I did it, I was using an air pump rather than using the natural vacuum. I didn't try it without it.
HOW CAN I PRODUCE BUBBLES INSIDE CONCRETE MIX TO REDUCE THE WEIGHT BY INCREASING VOLUM BY BUBBLES
Great tips dude! Thanks for the vid. The best setups that I have looked at was at Aqua garden plans (i googled it) it was the most helpful systems that I worked on.
what size and kind of T is that?
lol it will eat your roots in a dwc
its a vacum
wow, were those bubble so small at the end, they were just floating around in the water?
Thanks for the upload! Had just about everything needed ..my air pump went south and my fish have been without for a minute.. I had a little issue at first because the 3/8 hose was blocking the flow, slightly raised and bubbles
What size pump are you using?
Would this effect work if the tube inserted did not have a 45 degree cut at the base of the inserted part? When you buy a power head that has a hole for the venturi effect, it is not slanted, but still sucks in the water. Any explanations???
Thanks
Very nice and informative. Thank you!
VERY nice! and cheap too!
what os the blue thing call?
I like this idea … I assume you can inject oxygen into the water and the roots without paying for an air pump and the electricity to run it, not to mention the greater simplicity and lesser materials. Great idea.
You get far better oxygenation when you route the air line from the surface into the center of the pumps impeller on the input side of your pump. The vacuum pressure at the center of the centrifugal pumps impeller is stronger and the action of the high speed impeller blades also churning the oxygen into the water has a synergistic affect. You do not need any of the T's or other fittings either, simply drill a hole the size of you airline into the front of your pump so it protrudes into the center of the pumps impeller. Hope this helps you or anyone else.
I only have one air pump and two aquaponics systems so this is excellent help and i am off to build one now. thanks very much for the video.
Thanks for this video! I adapted your technique with some local parts I found from the big orange store and got one working great! I had to modify the design slightly to work with parts I could find, but it's the same concept really. It's currently aerating an 18 gallon tote overnight preparing for new plants tomorrow.
I wonder if using a standard aerator for a sink would break up the bubbles more.
venturi's are not efficient at all at aerating the water, as in order to have an effect, you need pressure from your pump, which means you decrease pumped water volume
what would happen if you pumped more air in the air line with a air pump I think im going to try that
