Corrupt local politicians all over this country are trying to stop this
type of living through passing bogus laws and ordinance.
Especially about livestock. They get a couple of selfish asshole neighbors
who complain about the noise (chickens/ducks) or the
smells(manures/fertilizer/compost piles) to use as examples why they need
to over regulate or outright ban.
And they get away with it because we as a Society have failed, failed HARD.
We now reap the benefits of this compliance and silence, and it will only
get worse.?
12$ a month for electricity ? And how much for your mortgage to buy the
panels ? Also how many man-hours can the participants of this work when
they are done doing the farm-related stuff ?
Does it consume more than 40 hours per person per week to keep this running
? If so, you would benefit from doing something more productive and buying
your food from a big farm, then enjoy you free time and/or spare income.?
This method of local farming is great at supplying your family with food
while contributing to the restoration of the environment. Unfortunately, as
some people have pointed out, governments are working at passing policies
to limit how much one can produce for themselves. I think people like the
family in this video are awaking to the truth that our systems for
governance and society are broken. Corrupt governments who are heavily
influenced by corporate interests do not have the needs of the people at
the top of their agendas, it is time the people of earth united against
tyranny and worked towards a true equal transparent democratic government.

There’s not enough land for a whole lot of urban people to be doing this.
It’s a lot like biodiesel and other feel-good dreams that fail a large
scale math test. I can see more supplemental food being grown this way, but
let’s not pretend it alone will feed the hordes. Overpopulation needs to
stop and few politically-correct people are doing much except making
rationalizations.?
Living like this is a major threat to the government. Many people in my
city bought efficiency water tanks for our toilets. The city raised our
water rates because they said we are not using ENOUGH water now. When are
we going to say enough is enough and take our lives back? What has made us
so afraid to live life how we see fit without the government and state
controlling every move we make?
I could see a city inspector going door to door asking to see what we have
growing in our backyards and demanding to look into our food storage soon
IF we don’t nip them in the bud now!
PRIVACY and FREEDOM is up to us. It’s our own fault is we don’t live this
way. This family is doing it and we can too. Just DO IT and stop waiting
for someone to give us permission.?
There are no proven harmful effects from gmo foods. If you think about it,
almost all domestic crops are genetically modified by definition, since
they have been breeded to be more useful to humans, and are genetically
distinct from wild plants.?
Okay, where are all the animal rights activists to cry about the animal
cruelty of keeping the goats and hens cooped up? And what’s the carbon
footprint of the consumers driving from their restaurants to this home just
to pick up a loaf of kale? Personally, I think this is wonderful what
they’re doing, but let’s not think it’s the solution to ANY problem facing
the world. And for the father to be aghast at the thought of feeding his
kids taco shells made from (GASP!) GMO CORN ignores the FACT that GM foods
save MILLIONS of people each year from death by starvation. BTW, the most
heavily “genetically modified” plant in the history of humanity is today’s
marijuana… funny how THAT seems to be okay. ?
And then Code Enforcements visits and shuts it all down.?
Wow, their OWN backyard??? I’ve grown vegetables in my small backyard my
whole life. It’s strange how people think it’s impossible to grow food by
yourself anymore?
Everyone should turn to this type of life. The more we are dependent on
others, the more that allows those people to dictate our life to us. If we
were all self sufficient, governments would be obsolete and we could all
have true freedom. We could all live in harmony with the planet and each
other and we could have such an abundance of food and supplies that no
being on this planet would be in need.
If for one second we could all stop being greedy and focus on what we
really need in life we could all live a much more fulfilling and happy
life. Instead of wasting your life working for a greedy company that cares
nothing more about you then how much money you can make them, why not live
your life for you.
Every time I make this proposition to people, I always get this “I have to
have a job so I can bring home a pay check to pay my bills and feed my
family”. When I get this type of response I can’t really argue with it
because it’s true. You do have to pay your bills and feed your family and
usually this means working for someone else in order to do this. At the
same time that that response is true, it doesn’t have to be permanent and
in time wouldn’t have to be true at all. Instead of using the capital you
gain from your job to consume, you could use that capital to make a supply
so that you no longer have to be dependent on your job for consumption.
I look at it this way. I have one life and when it’s over it’s over. I want
to live mine my way and not by the rules of somebody else because when I’m
on my death bed and I know I’m going back to the nothing I came from, I
don’t want to be regretful that I lived my whole life for someone else. I
want to look back and be happy that I lived my life the way I wanted to and
that I made a difference.

In my small city, you can get fined $360.00 per day that you are selling
your vegetables. You can’t sell cakes. You can’t sell self made furniture
or crafts. You can’t raise livestock or poultry which will get confiscated.
So country life is the only way.?

plants, 4,300 pounds of vegetable food, 900 chicken and 1,000 duck eggs, 25
lbs of honey, plus seasonal fruits throughout the year.
From 1/10th of an acre, four people manage to get over 90% of their daily
food and the family reports earnings of $20,000 per year (AFTER they eat
from what is produced). This is done without the use of the expensive &
destructive synthetic chemicals associated with industrial mono-cropping,
while simultaneously improving the fertility and overall condition of the
land being used to grow this food on. Scaled up to an acre, that would
equal $200,000 per year!

In 2012 my wife and I purchased a home and one acre of land in Nevada, near
Dayton. The first thing I did was to plant 15 fruit trees and a few grape
plants. Soon we built a 25 x 30 hoop house and made a very large compost
pile to be used in the garden areas. We heat our home with wood and take
the ash out to the compost pile and garden areas. We have 20 more apple,
cherry trees coming in spring of 2015. We still have electricity to run
the freezers and we have so much food to last the entire winter and much of
the spring. Our favorite crop is spinach and kale. We use heirloom seeds
from Washington state. We grow peanuts, squash, carrots, tomatoes,
potatoes, ginger, lemon grass. We have to colonies of bees and plenty of
fresh honey. We have established asparagus and using old seeds, will plant
two more large rows in 2015. I love your homesteading ways. We actually
homesteaded our home in Nevada and will hope and pray to sell more of our
produce in 2015. We are a minority for sure…. We now will try to live
off the land with our hard work, God willing. We only work here on the
homestead and we hate to go shopping for anything. We know what goes into
our foods now and we care about what we eat…. I hope you continue to

Most people are too lazy to raise their own garden. I used to see homes
in my area (a suburban area) with large gardens in the back yard every year
at least in 1 of ever 5 homes. Now 20yrs later… I would be lucky to see
1 in 30 today.?
