The kids plant a summer vegetable garden as the season wears on. The girls planted squash, watermelon, and more corn. Each girl planted her own vegetable plants to see how they would do. The boy planted more pumpkins to replace those that had died. The plants produce well, but tire out as the season continues. With a long growing season here, we love gardening here especially well. Even considering how many garden pests there are here in Oklahoma.
We removed the dead plants and weeds and rototilled the soil so we could do the planting. Our yard sale Troy Bilt rear tine rototiller has been such a wonderful garden tool! We use it so often – it has really paid for itself. We also are growing more sweet corn and Okra as well as sweet potatoes. Our gardens are one of the l=things that we love so much about homesteading.

@Brandi Crosby – An excellent question Brandi! It's a lot of work. The garden is still pretty new so it's more work than a well established garden. Basically, we just take a lot of time to keep up the garden. Most often we don't have enough time to do what we really want with it!

Great garden update. So glad to see the sun protection. The kids are doing a great job. That looks like some good chicken feed growing. God Bless and take care.

really love how your garden is growing so fast. now got a craving for pickled beets. oh well.  That was really smart on mentioning the kids wearing hats. with heat index of 110+ can't stay out in the sun too long. have to be safe.

I see all the kids now have those great looking hats very sensible to guard against sunburn. The newly planted summer garden is looking really good. I hope you will now have control of the pests. A big thumbs up. I love pickled beets I always have a jar or 2 in the cupboard.
